Casual summer dresses

I'm looking for some casual summer dresses. Dresses where you can throw them on, put sandals on and be out of the door! Ok, I know we're still waiting for the weather for this in the UK 😀

I'm going for a weekend away soon to a hot place so need a few of these dresses.

I've ordered these 3 dresses from John Lewis (they're half price in the sale!). They look comfortable to wear and (dare I say) semi stylish! Not sure what they'll look like on though 🤔

Can you post a picture of your favourite casual summer dress so I can get some ideas please?

I get most of my Summer dresses from Charity shops! I'm lucky to live close to a city centre and there's about 10 charity shops within half an hour walk radius. Its obviously hit and miss but there's so many different styles there's bound to be something that tickles your fancy!

I like this Seasalt Carnmoggas dress. Made of bamboo, light and comfortable. Also in the sale.

These are 3 of my favourite new dresses for summer. The first was £18 from Next, a wrap style with pockets. It can be dressed up or down.
The second was £15 in the sale by F&F at Tesco. It can be a beach dress but I'm saving it for evenings when I'm on holiday.
The third was from Accessorize cost £27 but with 20% off & my £10 Treats voucher it was £11!! It's a good beach dress but can also be worn casually during the day if the weather is hot.

I also bought a lovely black cotton broderie button up mini dress from Topshop... it was £40 though so NOT a bargain but looks nice.
And a square neck navy floral tie back skater style dress from Blue Vanilla at Dorothy Perkins for £18.

I've realised all my new dresses are short but I'm too short for maxi & I don't find that midi suits me unless it's fitted. Anyway I want to get a tan!

Thanks tierraj - your dresses look lovely. I'm 5ft 8 so they would be too short for me.

I'm not very adventurous when it comes to wardrobe choices - I generally don't like things that are too short on me or too low in the neckline but that's just a personal thing. I'd love to have a figure in which I look beautiful in everything and I don't have to care about feeling self conscious.

However I didn't have this in my 20s so doubt I could achieve this in my (late Sad) 30s!

I don't think I have a great figure but I'm 5'3" so shorter things look better on me than longer items & ive lost weight recently & been working out so happier to show more skin than before.
Besides even in a strappy dress I still look covered up compared to some of the women in my local area when the weather gets warm!

I got several great and comfy dresses at gap this year

It looks nicer on me actually as i think the model is too slim to pull it off in that pic. Anyway they have loads of great dresses.

polyhymnia · 20/06/2019 20:07

My standby dresses for the sort of purpose you describe are two of Boden's styles - their Casual Jersey dress and their Phoebe dress. And they have several similar styles. Their sale has just started.

MrsSiba · 20/06/2019 20:20

Has anyone ordered from Yoins? I keep seeing ads from them on mn and they show nice summer dresses. I've never heard of this company before.

cinnamonbun17 · 20/06/2019 21:25

Titsywoo - that kimono dress from Gap looks so comfortable! I never think to look in Gap for dresses but they have some nice ones. Thanks!

Polyhymnia - thanks so much for the Phoebe jersey dress recommendation! I just bought it! Didn't know the Boden sale was on. I got the dress in navy buttercup (regular length).

I just bought this (damn you Facebook ads!) and it's so easy to wear (and pack) and very flattering.

It's really comfortable. And it has pockets! Yes I'll be checking out gap each year for dresses now. I actually got that one for 19.99 in a sale. Got some other lovely cotton sundresses too.

This is a really guilty secret but I got a dress on Amazon that is so brilliant I have it in several colours. Krisp knot front dress - I have it in purple, black and navy. About £15 and despite being slightly shiny material it is very cool in hot weather (it was the coolest thing I wore in Sicily in 35 degrees+ heat), super comfy it is also pretty flattering and kind over the stomach. It drip dries really quickly and can't crease. It's knee length, covers your back and doesn't show too much cleavage. I've got some of the patterned ones too but they are less successful - they are a cotton jersey material which is fine, but the polyester version is way more comfy.

I have one like this from White Stuff but in last year's colour, or maybe longer ago than that. Cotton, enough width and pattern to hide the midriff, and really good pockets.
