Interview clothes suggestion

I’ve got an interview for a senior role in a big, trendy tech company. I’m not a big trendy, tech company sort of shape or age, I’m mid 40s, 5’6 and a wobbly size 18. I get the sense that turning up in my best Hobbs suit isn’t going to demonstrate I understand the culture. Cos and & other stories I guess would be more appropriate, but they don’t come in my size, what does the plus size, 40-something hipster wear?

I was wondering about something like this, but sometimes shirt dresses make me look like Vera Duckworth in a house coat

It is a nice dress but it's very harsh and might look more like you're going to a funeral. How about best Hobbs suit with a blouse in a strong but classy print?

NoBaggyPants · 17/06/2019 19:15

This blouse with a navy cigarette pant?

Or this dress? I think it would be really flattering but a bit unusual compared to your standard wrapover.

I wouldn't go too far from your comfort zone. You are what you are, and if they don't want you because your clothes aren't right it's going to be a miserable place to work!

Oooo, I love that wrap dress, will see how I get on with it.

I also like the idea of blue cigarette pants, already got them, and finding a statement shirt.

I don’t normally wear a Hobbs suit, but it’s always my interview go to, as it’s smart

I'm no help on the clothes front but oh my Vera duckworth in a housecoat totally made me laugh out loud 😂😂

Don't discount Cos entirely - they go up to size 18 and some of their clothes are quite loose fitting, but still minimalist. When I was size 18/20 and working in a similar environment, I bought a lot of their large shirts and oversized shirt dresses. A shirt like this one www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/the-edit/product.draped-oversized-shirt-cerulean-blue.0766400003.html - for example.

Love the wrap dress, wish I had a reason to buy it.

Cigarette trousers and a blouse would work too.

I actually like the shirt dress but if you feel like Vera Duckworth in it then it’s no good.

Just thought I ought to come back to this thread, the Finery wrap dress arrived, I love it, it looks amazing. Thank you so much for the recommendation.
