Brands similar to Hush?

CatyaPurella · 17/06/2019 10:53

So being (slightly) the wrong side of 40 I struggle to find clothes that are stylish enough but not super trendy, I like clothes to last more than one year. I realise I am not old old but don't want to look like my teenage daughter either. I like Hush but sometimes find it a bit 'samey'. What other brands are there in similar price/style that I could check out.
Thanks Thanks

I love Hush and find Mint Velvet quite similar. Also

High street: Dorothy Perkins, Oasis, Warehouse.

Online: Joules (just got a very Hush-y dress in the sale) or Boden (a recent thing but I've liked most of the stuff I've got).

Maybe look on John Lewis or Debenhams website as they have lots of different brands?

PS I'm 34 and think I look quite good Grin

Ellapaella · 17/06/2019 11:46

I'm 40 and like a bit of Hush
To be completely honest any of the consignments that you find in John Lewis are going to be fairly similar so And/Or, Whistles, Jigsaw etc.
Mango and Warehouse, French Connection to make a few more.

Ellapaella · 17/06/2019 11:47

*name a few more!

CatyaPurella · 17/06/2019 14:51

Ooh yes had forgotten about Mango. I love Jigsaw but when they have a sale Smile

I was going to say Mint Velvet. Though both are massively over-priced IMO
I like Mango a lot, and it's cheap.
I buy Jigsaw from ebay Grin
If you can bear to plough through pages of synthetic nastiness, Next has some gems, but you have to look hard. And never in store.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/06/2019 18:53

H&M are pretty good style wise with hush. Believe it or not, some Tesco stuff is also quite similar.

I agree re: Next, I have found some gems but mostly it’s dross. M&S Autograph has an odd gem too.

I also like Baukjen, quality is really good. I recently ordered from Me + Em, quality was good too but the trousers were way too long.

I have found Hush v poor quality and I agree Mint Velvet is way too overpriced.

notacooldad · 17/06/2019 19:46

I like '& other stories' and 'Zara'
Theres so.e good buys in H and M although the one in my town can look like a jumble sale sometimes.

GVmama · 17/06/2019 20:32

I had some lovely things from Gap last time I went in there. I also find some gems in M&S, basics mainly, and TK Maxx can surprise me sometimes too. I live rurally and don't get into cities for shopping from one year to the next, so I have to take what I can get!

CatyaPurella · 17/06/2019 21:23

Thanks all! A few names there I had forgotten...& Other Stories is one of those shops I want to love but have never seen anything I think is worth the money in there. Baukjen seems way overpriced too. Some other places to research so Thanks

& other stories can be pricey but I've had some favourite items that have lasted a good while. ( most of them have been bought in a sale)

Fridaysgirl · 17/06/2019 22:28

Kin

John Lewis own brand- but sssshhhh- don't tell anyone.
I don't think many have discovered it. Went off Hush last winter when 4 mums turned up to the school play in the same Hush jumper.

notacooldad · 18/06/2019 11:35

I've had a few pieces from Kin at John Lewis in the past but each year they seem to produce things with more and more material so most people would look like a bell tent that's about to collapse,
I had a. Look in JL at the Trafford Centre a few weeks ago and I just can't understand the over sized dresses band tops they keep churning out.

thedevilinablackdress · 18/06/2019 13:33

I'm mid 40s (not the wrong side IMO 😊) and my favourites are COS, Toast, Masai, Oska...mostly via eBay or sales tho.

Love wafting about in an oversized dress notacooldad

Some people really carry that look off and look great. I look like I need a few pegs and guy ropes!!!
I find Cos similar. I was in Cos in Germany last year and a part from a couple of t shirts that were about €11 each and have been brilliant everything was oversized and angular.
I need things a bit more shapely but not clinging.
