Help me accessorise this dress...please?

Planning to wear this for a formal dinner (“lounge suits” dress code, posh hotel, corporate do).

It fits v nicely but I unsurprisingly don’t look as nice as the model (I’m much shorter and fatter! Size 14, pudgy arms...). I am pale with shoulder lengthy mousy brown hair if that helps for colours at all.

So... what do I wear it with? Accessories? Shoes? Hairstyle? Help (very) gratefully received!

I'd probably go very high, slim heels, hair loosely up with statement earrings and bare decolletage, because that's a nice neckline.

Do you know if you are warm / cool in your 'colours' (you can find tests online that help you work it out)?

I'm a fan of nude coloured simple - ie not strappy - heels atm but I guess it's whatever you like.

Ooh thank you! I have (I think, looking online) a cool skin tone. Very pink and white, burn easily, suit most blues, clearer greens etc. Green eyes. High slim heels sound good - I have some metallic ones, but would happily buy a nude pair as imagine they would get plenty of use.

I may need a jacket or cardigan or wrap for later I think too as it may get chilly...

Lovely dress.

Not a fan of nude heels. Maybe black strappy sandals? Leather jacket to sling on top.

I agree, hair up or half-up, and some nice earrings to show off the neckline.

  • how about something like this:

Or

Your metallic heels would be fine. Stacked heels are more modern but having done them as a teenager I feel like a slimmer heel is more elegant for a very formal occasion.

Enjoy!

It’s a lovely dress OP , but why don’t you buy a dress in a colour that suits you to look your best ?

If you are looking for statement earrings check out a brand called toolally in John Lewis. They are amazing and weigh next to nothing

I think a leather jacket might be a cooler/edgier look than I can carry off tbh! Likewise the pretty little thing earrings. For context - the dinner demographic is a bit more tweed and pearls if that makes sense.

The Oliver Bonas earrings are fab, and will definitely have a look in John Lewis too!

Speckledy - I totally take the point as I would have preferred a lighter or brighter blue or green really, but it’s at least navy not black (and I suit most blues). Also I was so pleased to find something that fitted my huge boobs and chubby post baby body nicely that it seemed well worth buying. And as it was a bargain £29 in the sale I have the budget to accessorise!

These are the earrings I was thinking of from JL: www.johnlewis.com/toolally-half-hoops-mirror-drop-earrings-teal-silver/p3955462

I've got some lovely earrings from here (sorry can't do a link).
