What length is a ‘midi’- dress/skirt?

I’ve been looking at buying a new summer dress recently and amazed how different midi-skirt lengths are.

I’m usually a maxi dress kind of person, and know theses are fairly long.

However, I have noticed that midi ranges from just below the knee

(which is what I thought it was), midway between knee and foot, and some are longer.

Photo 1, 2 or 3?

Yes, 1,2 and 3.

Midi traditionally mean mid-calf.

Confusingly, people use it for anything from knee-length downwards, so it is unfortunately a meaningless term at present

Midi - mid-calf muscle.

hazeyjane · 12/06/2019 22:11

Well on me they are ankle length, but I am a shortarse.

MrsL2016 · 12/06/2019 22:11

I think midi is anywhere past the knee and before the ankle. So all three are midi

1 and 2 are both midi to me. 3 is tea dress length IMO.

Ellapaella · 12/06/2019 23:18

1 and 2 are what I would called midi

LolaSmiles · 12/06/2019 23:20

I would say all 3 are classed as midi these days because it seems to mean 'anything from knee to calf'.

To me personally, a midi length is mid calf.

1 is the type of dress that comes to mind when I think midi.
