I always use traditional polish on my nails and of course it chips like nobody's business. I'd like something longer lasting for my holiday but have no need for anything like acrylics, as pregnancy has graced me with the most beautiful long and strong nails I've ever had! So what kind of treatment should I be asking for? I don't want to walk into a nail bar and look stupid.

I've had a gel polish before - it is finished with UV light and is longer wearing than regular polish. The only problem is that it has to be soaked off - so you end up having to go back to have that done. Plus it weakens your nails and they look crap after!

Yeah, you want gel / Shellac I think. They do need to be soaked off unless you are foul like I am and leave them for weeks and then peel them off.

Alabasterangel6 · 11/06/2019 21:10

A gel polish (shellac is one good brand) done properly won’t ruin your nails and will last over 2 weeks.

You could soak off yourself (no special kit needed other than nail varnish remover, cotton wool and some foil and patience - but going back would be easier.

Peeling them off WILL damage your nails!

I'm pretty bad ass. I live life of the edge* 😈😎.

*I have had gel nails approximately twice in my life, so I think I'm fine really 🤪

Oh thank you! I should know these basic things, but I'm really low maintenance and never treat myself to anything.

Just looked at my local beauty place, it says CND, Minx and vinylux. Are these gel polishes??

Sns I think is where they set the Polish with a type of powder so no uv light used.

Cnd do shellac so they probably do offer shellac that will last at least two weeks.

Do not even bother to remove the Polish yourself. Go back and get them to take it off properly.

Thank you, that's made it a bit clearer! I guess I just need to google pretty designs now!

Cnd is the parent company of shellac, they hold the trademark. vinylux is their normal polish, minx is an adhesive vinyl covering made in America by minx.
