I've got a summer wedding to go to and am looking for a new dress as anything I have from prekids no longer fits round my ribs (or bum!). I like this dress (I think, though it's a busier pattern than I normally go for), think it would look nice with a petticoat but not sure on shoes/accessories/hair style/bag.

I have thick, reasonably long hair so plenty for an updo if I have time to practice (travelling on day of wedding so no time for a hairdresser to do it). I also wear glasses if that changes any ideas...

Thank you!

i think i would wear my hair in a messy bun like and use a clutch similar to this. I'm not too sure shoes wise, hopefully someone else can help with that x

Pretty dress.
What shoes are you wearing? Hair up would be nice, something a bit 50s ish. I don't think it needs much in the way of accessories as the pattern is so busy. No necklace. Do you wear a watch? I'd do small earrings and then a big bangle/s. Clutch bag.

Agree with @sleepismysuperpower1 Smile I would wear nude shoes (will go with other outfits in the future and elongate legs).

RoomForOneMore · 11/06/2019 19:30

Ooh, some nice ideas. I'll be buying shoes so will look at nude coloured heels (and some flats for when ceilidh dancing gets too dangerous...).

I wear a silver watch with a small oval mother of pearl face. Agree no necklace, and some small studs.

Think hair will be my biggest challenge, I'm more of a pile it in a messy bun type, never have time for anything else.

What about a cardigan/shrug/jacket? This is Scotland, no guarantee of summer weather...

That's a beautiful dress (and a bargain price too!) Is it red or orange in the dress? I'm not sure from the picture. I'd go with sandals and earrings in the same (or similar) shade as the red/orange.

Primark have lots of coloured earrings at the moment and you might strike it lucky with a pair of sandals there too. If not, New Look are also good for shoes and River Island have some nice stuff, thought definitely more expensive that NL or Primark.

You could go all Audrey Hepburn with hair piled up, smokey eyes and big stud earrings?

RoomForOneMore · 11/06/2019 19:46

These are great suggestions thank you, not sure on the exact shade, I think it's more red, haven't ordered the dress yet.

I have a silver and mother of pearl watch with a small oval face. Like the idea of studs and a bangle for the other wrist.

Bit cautious of too much eye makeup as my glasses magnify any mistakes!

Always google for a discount code with Shein, I got 20% off last time. :)

RoomForOneMore · 11/06/2019 20:39

Good tip! Thank you, I've never used them before. Is sizing fairly standard would you say?

Bookworm4 · 11/06/2019 20:49

I’ve bought two dresses from them, sizes were great.

winterisstillcoming · 12/06/2019 19:54

I've had mixed reviews about shein so do let us know how the dress is when it arrives. I've always like the look of their clothes but been a bit wary.

RoomForOneMore · 12/06/2019 20:46

I know what you mean, it does seem too cheap...but I really like the colours, at least it's not much to lose if it's rubbish. Will make sure I order it in plenty time to find an alternative. If it turns out ok, think I've found the bag and shoes to go with it...

I like the colour of this shoes and bag. I think the style of the dress needs more of a peep toe shoe or full court rather than open sandals.
I think a little cream shrug might work. If you start trying to pick a colour out of the dress it might get a bit matchy matchy.

Bodicea · 13/06/2019 07:01

Sorry yes the second shoe is better.

Bodicea · 13/06/2019 07:02

Actually if you have cream shoes and bag maybe a red shrug/cardi would work ok.
