Her mum will probably pass tonight and its very sad. We all kind of forgot. I need to get something really and Amazon will deliver tomorrow. I know her birthday will be the last thing on her mind but I am thinking of her. Shes quite boho but the jewellery Im seeing is abit samey.

My mum’s birthday is at the end of this month and I’ve gone with a cotton kimono, books, nice nail varnishes and posh loose tea.

You don’t say how well you know the recipient, or how much you want to spend.

But in these circumstances might she not prefer to be taken out for a meal or a soothing morning in a gallery - rather than a hastily chosen gift?

How about National Trust membership, or V&A membership if she lives relatively nearby? I think the e-mail sign-ups are instantaneous more or less so you could put a copy in a gold envelope with a ribbon round
