Non smeary fake tan solutions

I'm very pale; I've made my peace that I'm never going to be a sun-kissed goddess but can't help but feel a bit of a natural glow might improve the blotchy ghostiness of my legs and arms.

I have never (no not ever) found a fake tan that works for me without awful smeary tidemarky smudge-behind-the-knees-when-I'm-sweaty horribleness.

I've done all the exfoliation and apply with mitts malarkey to no avail.

Can anyone recommend one of the ones you apply daily and builds up naturally that actually works?

Not a daily gradual one but I highly recommend Doll Beauty tan - you can get it in Topshop and online. It's an overnight one but it has colour to it so you can see where you're putting it and it doesn't smell like fake tan - smells like marshmallows

The Ethical Beauty one is lovely. Very natural, no smell and doesn’t rub off on sheets. And it’s palm oil-free.

I've used the St Tropez in shower gradual tan in the past. It works well as I'm very pale. This year I've been using Bellmianta gradual tan. I use it with their mitt and it goes on lovely with a light colour result.

St Moriz mousse is excellent and can be layered up over a few days if you want it darker

I'm the worst in the world with fake tan regardless of all the exfoliation, moisturising, careful application. The only one I've ever successfully used (so it must be good) is Bare Minerals (bought reduced)

Palmer's cocoa butter gradual tan. Hasn't left me streaky like a lot of them seem to and doesn't smell weird!

This is something I am a bit of a connoisseur of (coughs modestly)
So here goes -

Gatineau Golden Glow
Decleor Gradual Glow
Vita Liberate gradual tan.

I have tried almost every single one out there. These are more or less idiot proof.

I use the Dove moisturiser with medium tan. I've tried others but I go back to that one as it's cheap and works well. If you apply every other day initially you get a decent glow without being orange and then once or twice a week after that. Shave your legs first or you'll shave off the tan! Apply to your legs and rub the excess round your ankles and top of feet, rather than apply directly to that area to avoid the awful tide mark. Make sure you wash your hands afterwards. I do it in the morning as I'm paranoid about getting my sheets dirty.

Thank you everyone, off to do some price comparisons!

Skinny tan is the absolute best. They do a special mitt as well that you can use if you end up with orange knees to exfoliate it off. It's really natural looking and doesn't smell much

HermioneMakepeace · 10/06/2019 21:50

Skinny Tan has some pretty nasty ingredients in it. PEG-40 Stearate, for instance. PEG compounds have been found to open the pores of the skin, enabling environmental toxins to more easily enter the body. Also the mousse contains artificial colours. Again, something you really shouldn’t be putting on your skin.

Bondi Sands gradual tanning milk - never streaked on me, even when applied in a haphazard rush! Grin
