Sizing

Why is sizing so different in different shops/brands? I have a DD, 1, and I really need some new clothes. Pre-pregnancy I'd usually wear an 8 in most things except jeans for which I was always a 10. I lost weight due to HG and I'm lighter now than pre-pregnancy. I keep buying clothes in an 8 without trying them on that are swamping me. Most recently from Next and Apricot. I have very little time for shopping and I am wary of ordering loads online to try in different sizes but that's also still time consuming and I worry about not getting round to returning them.

Which brands/shops tend to size smaller and which ones bigger in your opinion? Might help me in future!

I'm a size 8. Cheaper-end shops tend to be small. Shops like M&S are generous. I'd order a size 6. Shops that do American sizes go for size 1 or 2.

I sometimes phone shops and ask them to take measurements for me
