Not mine! (Hourglass)

UserN0me · 06/06/2019 06:46

Skinnie minnies!

TitianaTitsling · 06/06/2019 06:47

Not mine- apple! From the pics lve seen you have to be tall and v slim, think if they are being worn 'ironically' iyswim!

madcatladyforever · 06/06/2019 06:53

I don't know what mom jeans are.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 06/06/2019 06:56

I agree with skinny - I also think (like the dyed grey hair trend) it's one you have to be under 25 to pull off.

fessmess · 06/06/2019 06:59

madcat think Bev Goldberg. Basically "naff".

anothernotherone · 06/06/2019 07:04

Teenagers wear them - my teen does as do loads of her friends (all slim / athletic teens around a UK size 8, around 14 years old), a couple of 19/20 year olds at work do. They look good and it's definitely better than very low cut jeans for anything active.

thedevilinablackdress · 06/06/2019 08:05

I'm a pear and they're a good fit for me... whether they look 'good' is in the eye of the beholder but I care little.

Floisme · 06/06/2019 08:13

They accentuate waist and arse so I think they look good on curvier shapes.
at the idea that they're only for young people - where do you think the name comes from?

Dinosforall · 06/06/2019 08:19

Floisme
Yes but if you're old enough to have worn it the first time round it might not look great the second time. Mom jeans wasn't a compliment!

Floisme · 06/06/2019 08:25

If that's the case Dino then I guess I'll have to take to my bed for the rest of my life. There is nothing in the shops I haven't worn before. Nothing.
Things look different the second (or third) time around, it's true. Some things even look better e.g. I'm curvier now so I look better in a pencil skirt than I did when I was young.

Fairylea · 06/06/2019 08:29

They suit my 16 year old dd who is 5ft 9 and a size 8.

When I wear them (size 16 nearly 40) I look like I’m about to fix someone’s boiler. Not a good look. BlushGrin

thedevilinablackdress · 06/06/2019 08:40

Applause Floisme
I am very much enjoying the 90s revival in shops at the moment and contemplating reigniting my love of combat trousers.

anothernotherone · 06/06/2019 09:00

Floisme Im Pretty sure the name's in a similar vein to boyfriend jeans. Inspired by, rather than intended for... Of course you should wear them if you want, but they're not primarily being worn by female parents, IME they're primarily being worn by their teen offspring Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/06/2019 09:08

I'm not a mom, but I like them and think they suit me - essentially they're just a high-waisted peg-leg shape. I'm 5ft 6, size 10/12, with a very small waist but bigger hips/bum. I like the Whistles barrel leg jeans.

fiorentina · 06/06/2019 09:50

I’m tallish and pear shape and think they are more flattering than skinnies. However I tried on mom denim shorts this week and FML they looked horrendous!

Floisme · 06/06/2019 10:10

I’m pretty sure the name originated because they were seen as the kind of jeans your mum wore to do the gardening. It was meant as an insult because they were unfashionable, not because they were intrinsically unflattering. Then their daughters discovered them and now we’ve got people trying to tell us they’re only for young people Confused

But thank you for giving me permission to wear what I like.

anothernotherone · 06/06/2019 10:14

Floisme Hmm you're welcome. Go ahead and snort all you like too. The thread is about who they suit - like a lot of things they look better on our daughters.

Floisme · 06/06/2019 10:17

Well I disagree. I think they suit women with an arse and a waist, which isn’t necessarily age related. It’s a different silhouette from skinnies and I think it’s long overdue.

goodluckandgodspeed · 06/06/2019 10:20

These are mine... maybe I shouldn’t wear them again though. I’m probably too old!

Drogosnextwife · 06/06/2019 10:22

Really skinny. Im pretty tall and quite slim and I though they would look pretty good on me...... I was wrong 😂

AnnabelleBronstein · 06/06/2019 10:27

Skinny skinny skinny. The whole point is to accentuate that skinniness by creating a baggy contrast. In fashion designers’ heads, anyway. Same idea as the oversized handbag style from the noughties.

This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but I also think only young women can get away with them. If you look old enough to be wearing them because you actually are a mum.. dangerous territory.

lhw92 · 06/06/2019 10:27

Pear
I’m skinny with a flat arse, and mom jeans I’ve tried only emphasise the flatness

I do like high waisted jeans otherwise though

dontgobaconmyheart · 06/06/2019 10:28

Oh I thought it was a. It of a geek chic ironic thing re: 'mom's jeans. Either way I have several pairs (different colours) and love them (am 30). They're comfy and make almost any tucked in -short or jumper look cool and a bit 90's, which I think is more of the moment as a silhouette than skinnies. Look cool with heels as well!

What I will say is that I think they'd look better on me if I had more of an arse and hips, I'm fairly slim and they look fine, but I think they look most flattering on those with a larger backside and small waist/flatter stomach as they accentuate that. As I'm not dressing to highlight my figure I don't care but I do think that's the case. If anything they've mostly been a revelation and lesson in the fact that I don't 'need' to accentuate my figure when I dress/why was a before and for whom when it boils down to it/there are other ways to feel good in what you wear. Each to their own though, no trend is for everyone is it!

moonpiggle · 06/06/2019 10:29

Im hourglass and i wear them, think they look oreeyt on me 😆 i wear new look 'Tori' jeans and they are comfy as.
