I'm having a browse for a dress for a very smart birthday party. Any ideas which brands to look at. I'm thinking Sezane, And Other Stories, Whistles sort of ranges. Any recommendations?

How much do you want to spend?

And how do you like to dress? To fit in or to stand out?

Also the sales have started so you might be wise to look more widely.

ZaraW · 04/06/2019 17:54

I don't think &Stories or Whistles quality is that great. Sales have now started as mentioned above. Matches might be worth a look you might get something beautiful at a good price.

MaiaRindell · 04/06/2019 17:54

Mint Velvet or Reiss? I find Cos often looks far more high end than it costs.

chasingseagulls · 04/06/2019 18:01

If you can afford £150-200 then the Matches sale has just started. There are quite a few Self Portrait dresses for around £150. Also See by Chloe, Weekend by Max Mara, Vivienne Westwood, Joseph...all will be far better quality than the brands you mention (although a high original price and designer brand name doesn't necessarily guarantee it).

Damsel in a Dress?

800msprint · 04/06/2019 18:11

Ooh I'm maybe up to £175 max. Happy to look at both standing out and fitting in.

Slightly over budget but ever since the Paris wedding thread I've been obsessed with this Bombshell dress They also do a lot of more body con styles.

sleepwhenidie · 04/06/2019 18:20

Check on the Outnet (frequently). Also look at Matches sale.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 04/06/2019 18:23

If you're looking for a short cocktail dress, look for a Ralph Lauren on Zalando. They're quite often available reduced and the quality is generally excellent.

Verite1 · 05/06/2019 09:51

I think Reiss is good for party dresses. And yes - check out OUTNET as well.

AnotherEmma · 05/06/2019 15:35

Phase Eight?

trimtops · 05/06/2019 19:03

Floisme from the thread you mentioned, I purchased a Bombshell dress. The one that you have highlighted.
It is fabulous! My review even mentions MN which I thought they'd take out.
Many thanks to the lady that bought up Bombshell in the first place.

Teddybear45 · 05/06/2019 19:08

I would buy a Diane Von Furstenberg dress around that budget. Can get some nice ones for £220 and these dresses are a long term investment - will last forever. (Website is uk.dvf.com)

Rununculusinflower · 05/06/2019 20:02

@Teddybear45, looks like most of the sale DVF dresses are out of stock.
What a shame, there's some beauties.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 05/06/2019 20:05

Phase Eight or Hobbs are my suggestions.

Floisme · 07/06/2019 10:10

This is my face trimtops Envy I think it's a fabulous dress - I've still got it on my phone and look at it every day. I Need my son to get married so I can have an excuse for buying it.

RidgedPerfection · 07/06/2019 12:34

Zoe Vine does some really amazing dresses.

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 07/06/2019 19:32

Gina Bacconi has some brilliant dresses (not just traditional "mother of the bride" and mature style outfits). Quality and fit is very good.
