Body shop cosmetics any good?

OldSpeclkledHen · 03/06/2019 12:18

Oh my word, I'm thinking I need to start using a little make up!!

The last product I purchased was from Virgin Vie! A powder/cream foundation type thing?!

Anyhoo, VV long since gone sadly, so am looking for a cream/powder type foundation thing (sorry more Tom boy than girly girl 😳) and a lip liner/lippy and mascara ...

Are Bodyshop cosmetics any good? They are reasonably priced and most importantly not tested on animals (or so I believe- I really have no idea 😳😳

Or can anyone recommend something suitable?

Also for Xmas, I was given L'Oréal older skin cream ... I have no idea what to do with it!!

Please excuse my total ignorance and help a middle aged lady in need!

TIA lovely ladies xxx

If you’re looking for cruelty free options you should steer clear of L'Oréal I’m afraid. I don’t know much about body shop products but I like Urban Decay who are cruelty free. Also a few bits from NYX who are cruelty free.

I like body shop skincare but didnt get on with the makeup. Too Faced is cruelty free and i think tarte is too. Infact looks like many brands are now CF so best to see what kind of product you want first then check

LindsayDenton · 03/06/2019 19:56

I’d recommend Tarte.

Urban decay is owned by L’Oréal, and although L’Oréal itself isn’t cruelty free, urban decay say they are, and don’t sell in countries where animal testing is required (China etc...) too faced have the same set up, even though their parent company is the Estée Lauder group (which isn’t cruelty free).

I personally don’t buy from these brands as although they are cruelty free, their parent companies, which are not cruelty free are still profiting from their sales.

I believe 'elf' are vegan and very well priced. Worth having a look? They are in Superdrug.

MikeUniformMike · 03/06/2019 20:14

I have Body Shop make up and I like them. Mascara, eyeliner and blusher have been fine, and I would buy from there again.

Lou573 · 03/06/2019 20:18

Oh I didn’t know that about urban decay, will avoid from now on too!

Tarts is excellent and cruelty free. Only issue you might have is in the UK you’d probably need to buy it online so it can be harder to colour match. I usually order direct from tarte but you can also get their stuff from qvc and they do a 30 day money back thing so you could send it back if the wrong colour

BusterGonad · 04/06/2019 10:21

M&S make up had the leaping bunny logo and the Rosie for autograph make up range is beautiful! They do chunky glossy lipstick pencils.

True but they are good at showing the various shade on people but it seems to me a vast amount of individuals are "medium".

THey only do 2 darker shades I think. They do fair(porcelain) and light. I am light (warm Ivory). I love Tarte make up!! Watch QVC - Tarte is often on there.

I love Tarte too. Their eyeshadows and blushers especially. I haven’t tried shape tape but people rave about it.

I think the shades are easy to choose but I think some people (myself included) can be reluctant to buy foundation online.

I’m not “medium” but you’re probably right that many are. I think they do a lot of shades now but there was a bit of controversy a while back wasn’t there? I think it was in relation for the shape tape and the narrow choice of shades.

I’d recommend you take a look at the website OP. It’s very good quality stuff. Or watch QVC which handy because they obviously talk about the product, how to use it and they often explain the shade range too. If you go on the QVC website and click on a product you can see a video of them talking about it so you don’t have to wait ‘til it’s on x

Tarte is vegan, also kat von d. Plus barry M are cruelty free and w7 even have a vegan range if you are looking for more budget.

Katiepoes · 04/06/2019 21:29

Body Shop are not part of L'Oreal any more, since 2016 or 17, they were sold to a Brazilian company. I like their facial sunscreen and the BB cream.

Preggosaurus9 · 04/06/2019 21:35

I had a lovely natural look makeover at a body shop recently. The foundation they chose for me is amazing, very light and easy to apply, just a couple of tiny dabs no need to pile it on.

joliejoleen · 04/06/2019 21:39

I have a foundation (the clay one), a blush and a lipstick from the body shop. Love them all. The blush goes on beautifully btw 😁

Oly4 · 04/06/2019 21:50

Love the body shop, their make up and brushes. The factor 50 sunscreen for your face is also hands down the best I’ve tried

BlueMerchant · 04/06/2019 22:00

Not sure about now as our local body shop closed and the prices are now extortionate but I can say that their make up used to be fantastic.

cheeserolls · 04/06/2019 22:04

Superdrug B range is vegan.

I've been using it to see how it goes and I've found it fine though I'm not mega into make up.

AliceRR · 04/06/2019 22:11

If you go to Body shop they often have offers on 30% or 40% off

OldSpeclkledHen · 04/06/2019 22:14

I walked into town yesterday lunchtime... the Bodyshop closed down 😭

Thanks for all other suggestions... Guess I need to go shopping!
