Having oily hair is incredibly tedious.

Yesterday I mowed the lawn at lunch time and was all sweaty and dirty so had a shower at about 2.30pm. Washed hair etc.

Woke up this morning and hair is visibly oily for a good inch of roots. So we're talking a turnaround of about 15 hours.

Seriously? This is so boring. When I was a teenager I was a grease ball but I really never thought I'd still be dealing with this in my mid 40s, FFS.

I resent constantly worrying about my hair, I resent having to wash it so much and the ensuing dry ends that occur. I resent always having to have a supply of dry shampoo and fretting if I come close to running out. I resent having to wear my hair up most days as on dry shampoo days it always looks like I'm the Lion King. I resent always checking my damn hairline. I resent somehow feeling inherently grubbier than other women who can somehow get away with washing their hair twice a week.

I know there's no solution - Lord knows I've spent the last 30 years trying every shampoo under the sun - but it just pisses me off and I really needed a rant this morning!! Angry

I did actually, but I didn't see mention of sulfates anywhere. Going by my experience and the research I've done personally i know It's helped me to avoid them. Not a scientist just a regular person trying to help. Excuse me.

Can I just thank whoever recommended putting dry shampoo in hair before it gets greasy. What a revelation. I used it last night and my hair looks better today than it did freshly washed yesterday morning

I know, right?

GAME CHANGER!

I'm the same OP. Greasy hair and greasy face.
I've carried around blotting papers for my face for years and recently started using them on my hair!
I use them on my roots before using dry shampoo so I don't need as much.
They now make a specific blotting paper for hair but it's really expensive and the cheapie papers I get from Superdrug work fine.

@ElspethFlashman TOTAL GAME CHANGER!

Fancy getting a comment deleted on a thread about greasy hair
Lol!! I do wonder what they posted

clucky3 · 11/06/2019 12:40

It was nothing, can't believe it got deleted. It basically said read the thread, people on it have confirmed that washing less doesn't work for them.

I think a pp already mentioned this but i’ll say it again - Batiste is much better than Superdrug own brand! I thought I’d try superdrug’s to save money as I get through dry shampoo quickly but it really was awful.

Honestly now I just use cheap plain talcum powder, I have dark hair but I liberally apply to my roots before bed with a makeup brush. By morning it’s no longer visibly white

Also, to those who rave about washing your hair less being the solution to greasy hair. I’m happy it worked for you but if you have an underlying hormonal issue (I have pcos) then it just won’t work 🤷‍♀️
I’ve also asked my dermatologist about this and she said there is no solid evidence that you can simply trick your skin into producing less oil. If only

My face is an oil slick too Blush I used to use blotting paper but now I just use napkins/loo roll as blotting paper can be overpriced and I’d get through them so quickly

Niacinamide and green tea extract have been shown to reduce oiliness but there wasn’t a significant difference in my skin tbh

I blot my face several times a day!! So frustrating
Wish there were more treatments (other than Roaccutane) for extremely oily skinned individuals

L'oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay shampoo + conditioner sorted me out. Not expensive and the clay draws the excess oil from your scalp. I just don't use the conditioner on my scalp, only on the ends.

I can go two days now without washing it, where I used to only be able to go one.
