Tightliner recommendation

Have tried tightening upper waterline but find it doesn't stay put and often migrates to lower water line which looks hideous. Any recommendations please?

Same problem here! If it’s soft enough to go on the it just transfers. if it’s a harder pencil then I have to drag and press I hard to get any colour on. What’s the answer??

Have you tried a gel liner? I quite like the Anastasia Beverley Hills one but it's pricey. I sometimes buy the e.l.f one if I'm having a tight month, works well but dries out in the pot quite quickly.

Merryweather007 · 31/05/2019 16:31

I find really teeny brush and Laura mercier cake eyeliner great but a big faff. You have to get it into the lash line then wipe off excess on top waterline.

Just do it on special occasions now but looks amazing.

One trick I've learnt is to use mascara instead by scrunching the brush down on the base of your lashes before doing the actual lashes if that makes sense. It dried quite quickly and stays put. Kohl always migrates on mine too, very annoying as it looks great when I do it then daft 15 mins later.

Mac Technakohl is great, it's one of their best selling eyeliners & it lasts a long time once applied. It's also fab for the lower lash line & it stays put all day for me, even though I've got very oily skin.

I never do lower lash line, seems to make my eyes smaller and also makes my dark circles look 10 times worse.
I shall have a look at the ones recommended although have none of those brands near me unfortunately.

You need the Laura Mercier Tightliner Cake Liner and a fine but stiff angled brush. You have to wet the brush before dabbing it in the cake liner then work it into the roots of your lashes from underneath. It lasts all day and doesn't migrate. I find it helps to apply your mascara immediately afterward and really work the brush into the lashes of your roots too. Then I set it all with a few wafts of my hair dryer.

I bought the Laura Mercier "pen" and didn't get on with it at all. It would dry up halfway through the process annoyingly.

I now use this: www.avon.uk.com/301-316-420/make-up/eyes/eyeliner/?pn=1 and it's brilliant.

I also have this: www.boots.com/maybelline-eye-studio-lasting-drama-gel-liner-10122461 which is quite good if I have time.

Tightlining has been a gamechanger for me. I could never do cats eye/wing eyeliner (just haven't got the right shape eyes - boo) and this somehow gives the illusion.

MushroomTree · 31/05/2019 19:00

Sorry to hijack but how exactly do you do tightlining? Does the eyeliner go above the lashes but very close or underneath on the waterline?

Rooftree · 31/05/2019 19:02

I work the eyeliner into the lash line mushroom

hugoagogo · 31/05/2019 19:10

I am a fan of this one: borjois It's soft so it goes on easily, but doesn't seem to transfer.

vaz119 · 01/06/2019 07:53

I have the clarins 3 dot liner which I wiggle between my lashes. The Laura mercier cake looked amazing (for 30 mins) but ran to my lower lids and looked terrible on me

Soola · 01/06/2019 09:14

Bare minerals one doesn’t transfer to lower eye.

millythepink · 01/06/2019 11:16

@mushroom, you don't put it on your upper waterline, that's how it ends up transfering all over the place. You work it into the roots of your eyelashes, from underneath, with little dabbing motions. I'm nearly 50 so want my eyes to look defined but open wide, and traditional eyeliner along my eyelid, above my lash line, now just makes me eyes look smaller. So tightlining is perfect for me.

There are lots of YouTube tutorials that show you how it's done.

Soola · 01/06/2019 11:44

If you find eyeliner above your top lashes a little harsh as you get older use a dark eyeshadow with a fine brush instead to brush a line instead of a liquid or pencil eyeliner.

The eyeshadow gets closer to your lashes and looks softer but gives as much definition as you like depending on the colour and how much you apply.

UserN0me · 01/06/2019 13:40

The maybeline one that comes in a little pot with a brush is the best. I’ve tried them all!

MushroomTree · 03/06/2019 12:14

Thanks. Will check out YouTube!

NotAgainKen · 03/06/2019 13:24

YY to the Laura Mercier cake liner and the very thin flat brush that goes with it. Nothing else works like it for me for tightlining. The Bleu Marine shade is really flattering - slightly softer than black, but still dark enough to define and blend in with mascara.
