Black dress to summer wedding?

I've seen a gorgeous cream and black hat for a summer wedding.

Would it be frowned upon to wear a black dress such as this one from Reiss? I'm not sure what the etiquette is!

I wouldn't. that's more funeral gear then wedding worthy.

Thundered · 30/05/2019 21:47

I think it’s a lovely outfit, I’d wear it to a wedding. I personally don’t think black is frowned upon like it used to be.

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/05/2019 21:52

Great dress for a funeral or a job interview but not for a wedding.

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/05/2019 21:52

Like the hat though Smile

I think black patterned ok. All black is just a bit somber for a wedding.

MrsJamieFraser2 · 30/05/2019 21:58

I'm so undecided! I suit more classic styles but it's my cousin's wedding so we won't be hiding at the back.

Not to hijack but what colours for a summer wedding? I've seen a plain navy dress that I would like to get, would that not be ok?

user1474894224 · 30/05/2019 22:00

I love the hat. What about a black and cream spotty dress I've seen a few of those with a similar shape to your original dress.

Something like this...

@user1474894224 I've got quite substantial boobs and I fear that spots/pattern would draw attention to them. Unless I can lose two stone a stone by then.

Actually, that's really pretty.

Is it suitable for mid 40s though?

ViserionTheDragon · 30/05/2019 23:00

I think user's suggestion is a great example of a suitable black patterned dress for a wedding. I'd wear it if I were mid 40s, don't see a problem there...

LellyMcKelly · 30/05/2019 23:05

If you have a cream jacket or pashmina, cream bag and cream shoes it would look very elegant.

TapasForTwo · 30/05/2019 23:11

I love that black dress. Maybe not for a wedding though.

LiveatCityHall · 30/05/2019 23:33

I don't wear colour well so I always wear black at weddings. I usually team it up with brightly coloured accessories and Irregular Choice shoes. I find this takes the edge off the full black.

Ninkaninus · 30/05/2019 23:43

There are hundreds of beautiful classic dresses available in beautiful colours, why on earth do you need to wear a black one?

QueenBlueberries · 30/05/2019 23:45

No. No white, black, light beige, etc at wedding. Why do people keep on asking the same bloody question all the time! If you want dark colour, navy blue is on trend at the moment.

user1474894224 · 31/05/2019 00:48

My boobs end up in a v-neck shape when I am trying to hide them. Anything else I worry about. 😂 You could try it and see how it is.....

Not in a million years.

Just don’t do it.

Recavanometer · 31/05/2019 00:52

Don’t even think about it

palahvah · 31/05/2019 08:22

I'm going to go against the grain and say that with that hat you can.

It's about having the white to offset, so jewellry-wise I would suggest a white or pearl cuff and poss also pearl necklace.

What shoes are you thinking? Strappy/cutout/peeptoe would be better.

palahvah · 31/05/2019 08:23

Oh, and black and white clutch bag.

palahvah · 31/05/2019 08:24

Ok, I've read now that it's cream and blanc rather than white and black - so as above but where I've said 'white' read 'cream'.

ValleyoftheHorses · 31/05/2019 08:24

I think you can with that hat if you wear a cream jacket. The accessories will make it weddingy.
