Superga?

I usually wear Bensimons as my go-to summer trainers, but the soles are very thin and I'm looking for something a bit more supportive but not too chunky. Would Superga be a good alternative? I'm recovering from a sprained ankle so haven't been out and about much so will probably order online. They'll mostly be for walking around on my upcoming holiday. Thanks!

I've just bought myself a pair of Supergra. They are very comfy. It normally it takes a good week for me to wear in a pair of shoes but I've not had 1 blister with these, despite walking a good distance in them! They are much comfier than my converse and Adidas gazelles!

whatsyourusername · 29/05/2019 17:20

Sorry, should have said I bought mine from Amazon for a good price Smile

Plump82 · 29/05/2019 17:35

Very comfy and as whatsyourysername says dont need breaking in. However id never take them on a real walking holiday. I wore them 5 days in NYC and it was torture as there's really no support. Theyre very flat. Im pretty convinced my plantar fasciitis started because of that holiday! I can wear them all day at work and be fine though.

Thanks for the Amazon tip @whatsyourusername! I was going to buy from Office but those are cheaper with free delivery too!

I got my leather superga from the office eBay outlet for £20. I don't think they're that comfortable though. I was desperate to take them off at the end of the day after a day's sightseeing.

crumpet · 29/05/2019 18:36

I’ve been wearing them for nearly 30 years (no idea how many pairs I’ve been through) and love them. But possibly wouldn’t wear them or any kind of plimsolls for a very hard day’s sightseeing. I’ve never had a leather pair though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/05/2019 18:39

I always think they look very wide, I'm not a fan.
I prefer gazelles, or even Superdry canvas trainers, or Converse low tops.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 29/05/2019 18:49

Thanks for the amazon recommendation- I’ve been eyeing them up for a few weeks but putting off paying £50. Just ordered some for £33 on amazon with free delivery!

Superga are heavy to wear, I wouldn't wear them for all day sightseeing. They're also totally flat with no arch support so for anyone with ankle problems or PF they are awful. I am in Italy so we can get them dirt cheap and they were my summer shoe for years- then I had a bad ankle twist which has left one ankle weak, developed PF as well, and there's no way I can wear superga anymore.
Fitflop white leather trainers (fsporty) are brilliant though, and have replaced superga as my summer shoe.

Alternatively, does anyone have any more supportive but not hideous trainers they can recommend? I have chunky legs so can't really pull off 'sporty' trainers with dresses.

I know you don’t want ugly as sin, but Skechers are ridiculously comfortable.

I wear suede pale pink Puma trainers which look nice & are very comfy.

I'm thinking of buying a pair of Nikes next as they are comfy & stylish.

I wanted black Vans but heard that they are uncomfortable at first?

Plump82 · 31/05/2019 06:28

Ive never had a problem with Vans and they're definitely comfier than Superga. I like Puma too and wear them with dresses. I have chunkier legs too so find Puma Basket platforms help balance my legs out. Anything too dainty emphasises my legs.

I have these AP Mercury liteknit in another colour. They are supremely light and comfortable and vegan if you're interested! I can walk all day in them. You can get them from zalando as well, or similar, if this exact style isn't in stock in white. I just bought a second pair before they sell out!

flugelhorn81 · 01/06/2019 14:20

@whatsyourusername thanks for the Amazon tip mine just arrived! Decided to order a pair and try them and I'm quite pleased, the sole is a lot more solid than my Bensimons but I might get some insoles for extra support.
