Talk to me about swim dresses....

Biancadelrioisback · 28/05/2019 18:44

Are they good? Bad? Ugly?
I am 5'2, used to always be a size 10 but since my last holiday I am now a 14 and very embarrassed about it. I need a swimming costume and the thought of my belly and arse hanging out makes me want to cry. Im not yet 30 so don't want to be old before my time. Are swim dresses a stylish way to hide the flab? Or is it twee and shit?
Help :(

I have one, dh calls it my sexy mini dress lol

Frumpiness is in the eye of the beholder

I like it on land, but in the water not so much

Another good option is board shorts imo

I'm an 18 and going to order this one :)

I literally found one I like on dress lily buy the delivery time is 10-20 days!! I'm guessing that's week days and if it comes and it's not right, I wouldn't have time for another :(

Ah I don't go until end of July so can wait for the delivery!

OP I feel your pain. I was always around a size 14 but am increasingly buying a 16.

I've just got these from Sainsburys Tu for my upcoming holiday. Whilst one does plunge a bit, I'm figuring it won't matter, but both are supremely comfortable and flattering. And to boost matters further, Tu are doing 25% off at the moment (although typically I bought mine before that started!).

Sorry All, don't know why that posted twice!

ManoloChooBoutin · 29/05/2019 09:02

Get a blouson tankini maybe - I would think more flattering than a swim dress. Since having DC these have been my go to.

However, the most important thing is your own comfort and confidence, so wear what makes you feel good!

NotWithTheProgramme · 29/05/2019 09:03

I have the same issue, and thought I had cracked it with a Next costume -felt like reinforced steel and held everything in... looked fab. HOWEVER! Poxy thing didn’t dry! One dip in the pool and it was wet for 8 bloody hours 😂 evidently 720 layers of tummy control takes more than some poolside lounging to dry off. No number of trashy novels and cocktails can take your mind off a moist arse.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 29/05/2019 09:13

I had one and thought it was incredible...until I got out of the pool. I hated having all this wet extra fabric slapping around my legs - it felt horrible.

Don't underestimate how much weight you could lose in 4 weeks. But also don't underestimate how losing even a couple of pounds can make you feel a million times better!

If I lose 1.5lbs I immediately feel like I'd look amazing wearing Kylie's gold hot pants. Even just 5lbs makes your tummy flatter, your normal clothes sit more comfortably, and you just feel better.

I sense you're wanting to lose a couple of stone? and that it all feels daunting. But don't use that as a reason to put it off. You could definitely lose a few pounds before your trip and you'd feel better.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/05/2019 10:03

I was just going to say that too OP, you can do so much in 4 weeks! Yes you'd have to put some effort in, but honestly if you watch what you eat & drink for the next 4 weeks and try and get lots of toning exercises in you'll definitely see an improvement in your figure and you'll feel better. Size 14 isn't huge at all, you're bound to find a swimsuit that flatters your figure and you feel comfortable in. Good luck!

Hollowvictory · 29/05/2019 10:09

Get a spray tan before you go you will feel so much better. No to the swim dress they add a lot of fabric and make you look bigger. Not flattering.

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 29/05/2019 11:25

And the good news is, even if you do loss s few pounds, any stretchy swimsuit will still fit anyway. So it won't be a waste of money.

It's amazing how much you can lose when you have the motivation. I met DH (years ago) online at the beginning of June, and thought his photo was the most handsome thing I'd ever seen. I started s diet that day, weighing 12st 12.

By our first date at the beginning of July, I was 11st 6. And by his birthday party in early October, when I met all his friends, I was 9st 7 and wearing a tiny size-8 dress.

I did a strict low/carb diet and went to the gym every day, or did Jillian Michaels DVDs. Whenever I felt tempted to cheat, I pictured shagging him, and how much I wanted to feel great about my body before I got naked.

I kept the weight off for years, until we got married. Now the thought of shagging him isn't the same motivation as it once was. 😂

Anything's possible. Find a diet that gives you a meal plan that you'd enjoy eating, and that will fit into your lifestyle, and just stick to it. Don't try to adapt it - just do what they tell you to do. As soon as you've lost the first pound, and got past the third day, you'll be in the zone and it'll be easy to carry on.

twilightcafe · 29/05/2019 11:34

Everyone else is more concerned with how THEY look in swimwear. They are not worried about anyone else.

Remember this. It's liberating!
And have a great time!

Hollowvictory · 29/05/2019 11:37

I do t think it's true that everyone is only thinking about themselves. Bollocks

Biancadelrioisback · 29/05/2019 13:11

Yeah if I'm really careful I know I can shed some weight. But I haven't come to terms with how my body has changed. My stomach is uneven for example. Bulges on the right hand side.
Also the cellulite!! No amount of fake tan would work. Plus I'm allergic which doesn't help! I need some putty filler or a real life Snapchat filter.
Did you know you can have a random bulge of fat in the middle of your back?
My frame is small so I'm wearing the weight terribly!
The only exercise I can do if free exercise so I'm going to start doing HIT training in the dining room on an evening instead of MNing... Lord help me.

Didn't Audry Hepburn stay skinny on a diet of black coffee and chicken soup...?

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 29/05/2019 14:12

What's made you gain weight, OP? Was it pregnancy, medication, or just general biscuit-related frivolity?

Bulging on one side of your stomach doesn't sound right. I mean, I'm a size 14 now, easily, but I'm equally blubbery on each side. Does it hurt when you press on the right side? Does it feel like fat, or like something underneath the fat?

Biancadelrioisback · 29/05/2019 14:17

Pregnancy triggered my weight gain.
I've been checked out at the drs as many times for my random bulge and at one point they said it could be IBS related, but more recently they just think I'm lopsided.
I just stopped taking care of myself. Dropped my gym membership (financial issues), started to eat freezer food nearly every night, didn't go out much etc. Probably explains my fatness and bowel issues....
