Who knew Cami tops would be so hard?!

I want a Cami style top. Big work night out coming up. I figure a Cami-thing would fulfil the need of being light enough for the warmer weather, not too frumpy and matronly and ageing, but also loose enough around the middle to avoid self consciousness.

But they are all so skimpy! Spaghetti straps, lots of cleavage, very short in the body, incredibly low backs that show your bra strap.....Confused

Does anyone have any faves they could point me to?

I get mine from Matalan. Floaty and flattering. Not to revealing. Work well for daytime and evening.

Butterfly84 · 27/05/2019 18:41

I love cami tops and they're so flattering on me. I'm not slim anymore, pear shaped with arms that aren't uber slim. I have quite a few camis and yes, they do have spaghetti straps, that's the nature of camis. But the lots of clevage, short in the body and showing the back of your bra aren't true of the ones I own.

Asda is really good, good quality and good fit. Also Matalan often have nice camis.

puppymouse · 27/05/2019 18:42

*too revealing ffs

CaptainPovey · 27/05/2019 18:45

Massimo Dutti do lovely camis. Not the cheapest but great quality. No avoiding thin straps though.

Oasis have some really nice cami tops just now. Thicker straps, double layered front, nice length and a nice comfortable fit.

The formal vest top is really comfortable on and quite a generous fit

CaptainPovey · 27/05/2019 19:32

@zippyswife

They are gorgeous

Might need to make a purchase!!

zippyswife · 27/05/2019 19:36

I have the black and will probably get a couple more too. They are timeless. I’m sure I’ll have them forever! Real life best friend has one in most colours.

zippyswife · 27/05/2019 19:37

... it was my first ever Wallis purchase. I’d never normally think of there.

CaptainPovey · 27/05/2019 19:55

Also Wallis stuff gets excellent prices on Ebay when you want to sell on

LolaSmiles · 27/05/2019 20:00

I love H&M for camis. Nowhere other than oasis fit as nicely on me.

ElspethFlashman · 27/05/2019 20:01

I saw that Next one with the embellished straps today - the straps really are very thin. Your bra strap would definitely show, which I'm not keen on. I know lots of people don't care about that though.

I'm going to do a Wallis order.

It's funny cos I remember someone on here once saying "Wallis :last place you look - first place you buy!"

Thank you for the link zippy!! I’m away with work next week somewhere that is very warm and been desperately looking for a camisole top that doesn’t show off cleavage

This is perfect!!

DontCallMeShitley · 28/05/2019 11:52

If you don't want straps to show you can buy them with inner support, however it feels like wearing a tight elastic bandage.

Maybe a vest style would be better, wider straps but a similar look.

Icecreamcake86 · 28/05/2019 12:00

Cant beat good old george at asda! There summer range at the moment is so nice and affordable. Have a look x

ZorbeeAndTheLemur · 28/05/2019 12:04

I went to the states last year and stocked up on cami tops by a brand called Express; they are called the Barcelona Reversible Cami, so you effectively get two cami tops for the price of one as they're reversible. They're lovely and very flattering. Each time I wear one I get comments and people asking where I got it from.

I am pretty sure that Express ship to the UK, and if not there will be plenty on Ebay sold by American sellers that ship to the UK.

Oasis (viscose)
M+S(silk)

doodlejump1980 · 31/05/2019 11:03

Another vote for Wallis tops here

CatyaPurella · 31/05/2019 11:07

I have just ordered a cowl neck one from Jigsaw - has slightly thicker straps. Not cheap and it hasn’t arrived yet but I like the look of it....

ElspethFlashman · 31/05/2019 11:46

Well I tried on loads and it turns out that they're really all much of a muchness. If you have big boobs they're a bit dodgy as they're all made of viscose which shows every line of a bra underneath, so a hard shell cup is really going to show.

But on the other hand, a soft cup will likely show the nips!

They can also be a bit droopy in the fit. I didn't think any of them were amazing tbh, though the best one was the one from Wallis with the ruffle down the front.

Dotty P's had some good camis as well but in the end it was a floral high necked shell top from there that won the day. The exact opposite to what I went in to buy but by far the nicest. I'll try and find a pic as it's a good buy (as long as you like your arms).

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 31/05/2019 11:58

It's nicer than the pic as there's silver sparkly thread through the floral bits which catch the light. Soooo nice on.
