Summer shoes for fat legs

What is the best type of shoe /sandals for fat legs? I seem to have developed chubby feet and legs and everything looks terrible.
I'd like to lengthen them so I don't look quite so dumpy in cropped trousers when it's hot.
I don't mind heels or flats.

Susie Hasler (of Styled by Susie - look her up on facebook) recommends chunky shoes/trainers. Little delicate shoes like ballet flats can give you a pigs trotter look when attached to the end of ample legs

I have very big calves (mainly muscle rather than fat but they are enormous) and have taken a liking to chunky loafers. I've 'just bought these from Sainsburys and they are a total bargain. You would not believe they cost about a tenner.

I think you're meant to avoid straps that go across the ankles, so something more of an open style with a slight heel?

Birkenstock Gizeh work for me, I have short fat feet and they elongate and narrow and my legs don't seem too bad either (also muscly calves)
