Hi, just thought I would share this in case it helps anyone. In brief: I have home dyed my hair with Nice n Easy or similar for thirty years. First, because I wanted a more funky colour than my natural mid-brown, which I thought was too boring when I was young. Later, to keep it that brown and hide the grey. Anyway, my financial situation took a bit of an upturn about a year ago, and I decided to become a lady who has her colour "done" in a salon. Had some highlights put in for fun too.
It was OK for a bit but then I decided the highlights actually were not my thing, blonde hair does not work with my skin colour and it made me look older, I felt. So back to the salon, asked her to get rid of the highlights and give me a nice NON-brassy mid-brown, back to my natural colour really (sans the grey obviously!).
I could see in the salon that it was too dark but was too English to say anything. Paid £90 and scuttled out. Got home and looked in a mirror, in a very well-lit room, it was very dark purple, nearly black! My DH said I looked "a bit goth", but it was worse than that, I looked about a hundred years old. I have very very pale skin this time of year, and while a beautiful young woman could pull off the pale skin-black hair combo, I certainly can not.
I was very upset and angry. I did not want to go back to the same salon (too embarassed and angry I think) so next morning I went to another salon and asked them to correct the colour. They sympathised, slagged off the previous salon big-time, and then did a colour-strip thing, and then recoloured. They charged me £100.
I got home and realised that now it was almost as dark, but with plum tones instead of purple. It was marginally better than before but I still looked dreadful, old and definitely "dyed".
I did a bit of internet research, ordered a product called Colour Oops, and my usual Nice n Easy colour. They arrived this morning.
The Colour Oops takes some time, you have to rinse for literally 30 minutes. But wow! My hair is my lovely normal brown again, looks totally natural and nice. I may not look young (!) but I don't look a hundred!
I have learned an expensive lesson, but I will save plenty of money over the years as I will never get a salon colour again!
I do not have shares in the Colour Oops company, honestly! But would totally recommend it in these circumatances.
