Please tell me your night time face cleansing routines?

Also, how do you do wash your face at the sink without getting water everywhere?

I love threads like this, I've just got myself a new routine as my skin was so dry and lacked any luster!
I've gone down the Korean route, I went to The Face Shop and was just planning to get a new Rich and creamy cleanser and bought the LOT!
I've got The Herb Cleasing Cream in Aloe, it's a nice rich cleanser but too thick to remove with damp cotton wool so I use a face cloth, then I use Dr Belmeur daily repair lotion tonique/toner which has skin-sync Rx (😂) I use this on damp cotton wool all over, next I may apply some rose oil or Darphin face oil, then for eyes I use Lancôme Multi lift and then for my face more Dr Belmeur this time the daily moisturizer with the same Skin-sync Rx!
I've got to say the Dr Belmeur stuff is lovely, the toner is like a gel and the moisturizer is light yet leaves a lovely moist film on your skin. My skin is very soft after just 4 days. I'm liking it so far, I just wish I had an eye cream that was especially for sensitive skin as I'm really suffering from dehydrated eyes.

BusterGonad · 25/05/2019 16:42

Oh and I bought The Face Shop perk off mask in Baby Skin. It was lovely and peeled off really well. Not sure it did much but was a relaxing treat. I'm actually going to buy The Body Shop elderflower eye gel as my eyes are so sore and they just need a cooling very mild treat to ease the dryness.

Not sure I agree with the whole ‘any moisturiser and cleanser will do’ statement. I just used to use Simple products which cost peanuts but my skin was dull and spotty. I invested in quality products and haven’t had a spot in ages and my skin looks so much better.

EatenByDinosaurs · 25/05/2019 17:08

No, I agree with Cloud I don't think its a case of any old product will do, I don't think products need to be expensive, but they do need to suit your skin.

BusterGonad · 25/05/2019 17:13

I think the right products suited to your skin, so for example I will never suit a wash of foaming cleanser as my skin is too dry, and I'd never suit a moisturizer with retinal in as it would make my skin sore.

LoafofSellotape · 25/05/2019 17:14

I have sensitive, reactive skin-

*I remove mascara with cotton pad and warm water.

  • Coconut oil to remove make up and remove with a warm flannel

*Aimie lotion face wash and remove with a warm flannel.

  • Avacado oil as a serum

  • Blue Nivea to moisture or Nivea night cream.

Soontobe60 I’m worried that I’m getting rosacea. I’ve always been prone to redness (especially after a drink!) but since DC, my skin seems to have changed and is very red and dry, it feels almost “thick” (can’t really describe it). My routine at the moment is also very simple, I only cleanse in the shower in the morning and use a simple eye cream and moisturiser from The Body Shop. That’s what made me think I need to do more, but perhaps I’m wrong?

Lamentations glad it’s not just me that gets water everywhere! Grin

IntoValhallai I like the sound of that Lush challenge! Might have to give it a go.

Several people have mentioned toner... what’s that? I’m clueless! Also, is SPD really necessary every day?

SPF* Blush

Used to just be a L’Oréal cleansing wipe, but for the last few months I’ve started taking really good care of my skin.
In the morning I use Elemis pro collagen cleansing balm with a Foreo cleansing brush, Elemis lavender toner, then the pro collagen serum and pro collagen advanced eye treatment followed by pro collagen moisturiser. At night it’s a glycolic pad and some night cream. Can’t believe the difference it’s made. Admittedly I have time on my hands while I’m on maternity leave and probably won’t keep this up.

DontTouchMyCurls · 25/05/2019 17:46

I just use some cheap Espa foaming wash then put one of those Elizabeth Arden night time capsules on

BusterGonad · 25/05/2019 18:08

I use a Origins cream with spf if I'm out and about but you need to be careful with it as if you have sensitive skin then personally a lot of them can cause your skin to flare up.

presents · 25/05/2019 18:18

1st cleanse: drunk elephant slaai cleanser or eve lom to remove makeup and SPF

2nd cleanse: ole henriksen double cleanse.

Followed by: ole henriksen glycolic, Pixi retinol or Paula's choice salycilic acid. I use them alternate nights.

Hydrating face mist:currently Superdrug vitamin e

Nip & fab dragons blood extreme serum with 2 drops of facial oil (currently using TBS oils of life)

Another spritz of face mist.

Moisturiser: currently ole henriksen (blue pot) with one drop face oil.

This is a relatively new regimen but my skin is transformed. So much more hydrated.

firstimemamma · 25/05/2019 18:22

Wash face with bat of soap and water.

Remove any make up with coconut oil or Vaseline and cotton wool

Moisturise with cheap as chips coconut oil and that's it!

Saving so much money!

firstimemamma · 25/05/2019 18:35

Bar not bat!

EdWinchester · 25/05/2019 18:41

Bar of soap?

Alsohuman · 25/05/2019 18:47

I’d pick you up @EdWinchester but l feel a bit weak at the knees too. Just waiting for someone to say they use a Brillo pad now.

EdWinchester · 25/05/2019 18:51

Lol Alsohuman. My face would crack if I washed it with soap.

I am waiting for the 'I only use home-made cold tar soap and liniment, just like my mother and 90-year-old granmother who doesn't have a line on her face'

TheCanterburyWhales · 25/05/2019 18:54

Well, obviously, the any-old-thing has to suit your skin- and if you research Simple, you'll see it's anything but. Horrible harsh products. For those old enough to remember, like me, both Simple and Clinique were marketed initially for "problem" skin (oily, spotty, acne etc- hence the white coat medical Clinique look which they have now abandoned) The Superdrug Radiant cleanser virtually scratched my face off, and so did the M&S sleep cream that everyone raves about.

Regarding suiting one's skin- people rave about Elemis Marine Cream- and I did the sheeple thing and bought it. Smells fab- but no way was it moisturising enough for my dry skin. (how they get away with calling it a "cream" when it's actually quite a watery lotion is another story...)

No moisturiser with spf in is worth it, because there isn't enough spf in a cream to make a difference.

NCbilliontimes · 25/05/2019 19:36

@TheCanterburyWhales

I totally agree with you on the marine cream, I use practically the whole range but I’m only 35 and my skin was ok to begin with, it’s more a preventative measure for me

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 25/05/2019 19:36

Yes, SPF every day, that’s the best thing you can do in terms of preventing wrinkles/pigmentation etc. You just have to make sure you remove it properly at night.

Dr Sam Bunting is a dermatologist who makes YouTube videos, she did a whole series on rosacea which might be helpful if you reckon that’s what you have.

Yes, I’ve heard both of these said before. Simple products are just awful.

This thread has made me go and wash my face before bed. Half the time I don't bother Blush
I use Clinique take the day off on my mascara then the 3 step. I have eye cream too and have recently started putting blue Nivea on my neck. I started using Clinique about 5/6 years ago and it seems to suit my skin well.

I'm lucky that my skin is pretty good for 42 and I only have some very fine lines at the corners of my eyes.

What's with all the waiting 30 minutes between products?

frugalkitty · 25/05/2019 22:19

@intovalhalla I started the ultrabland challenge this week, I’m on day six. So far so good, my skin isn’t feeling tight or sore and my hormonal spots are calming down nicely. I do spritz with some eau Roma afterwards, then rub a little more ultrabland into the spots to help them heal.

Fstar · 25/05/2019 22:26

Magnitone bare face with hot cloth cleanser, use cloth at the end to make sure its all gone
