Acrylic or gel nail extensions?

Evening all!

I’m goIng on two hen parties abroad within 3 weeks and with work in between I want to have nails that will last and I won’t need to get redone, I find shellac will only last max 2 weeks for me. Would you recommend gel or acrylic nails for durability? My salon offers just polish or shellac on top of the extension, I take it shellac would be best (but more expensive)?

Thank you!

Shellac’s only meant to last two weeks anyway, you can use normal polish on extensions but gel or acrylic depends on your nail type.

Acrylics for weak nails, gel for brittle less flexible nails.

If your abroad sunblock, chlorine & UV will degrade the product anyway. I’d take some gloves to apply sunblock then carefully do the back of your hands.

I’d go for gels

You can also apply a normal clear top coat and replace with non-acetone remover through the week. Will help to keep the colour which will dull from the sun / sand etc

Ok thank you, will go for just normal polish then, it’s a tenner extra to get the shellac so quite glad about that Grin

My nails are breaking a lot after months of getting shellac so i’ll go for the gel ones

Thanks for your help!

That’s weird, shellac’s non damaging because you don’t need to buff at application or removal.

Do you apply your solar oil 2 x a day?.

I have acrylic overlay with Shellac on top. I've never had any problems with them on holiday looking dull or degrading and they usually last 3/4 weeks.
I find they last on holiday as they don't get the wear and tear of work and housework. Drinking and sunbathing is kind to nails Grin

No I don’t apply an oil, the salon I got to haven’t mentioned the need to but perhaps I do! I’ve just found that they’re very weak and tend to break

I used to have acrylic nail extensions (tips) with shellac on top. But l spent 6 months growing my natural nails out under my tips, and then I started having just shellac. I had just shellac on my natural nails for 2 months but having a toddler and long natural nails I was worried they would break with just shellac. So now I have an acrylic overlay on my natural nails with shellac (the length is my own, no tips).
I have no problem with them at all

You need to use cnd solar oil 2 x a day, every time you wet your nails the nails expand, then contract again. This pulls your product off the nail.

If the nails full of oil it can’t penetrate so the product lasts longer.

Your cuticles won’t split either.
