Party outfit 40-something

You're 40, you have to go to a party for which the dress code is smart casual, and where you know no one. Maybe you've recently had a baby and are feeling a bit unconfident about your body. What do you wear (dress, or trousers and top combo?) and what shops do you buy it from?

i think i would wear this because its quite forgiving shape wise, with wedge heels x

I've just turned 40 and I wore smart skinny jeans and a sparkly top - Oasis had quite a good choice when I was looking. I have a bit of a mum tum issue so I went for a slightly floaty top. Or something that tucks in but has some volume iyswim so you can pull it out a bit.
