Christening guest outfit

Hi all,

DP’s niece will be christened soon, and as I am not religious/haven’t attended one before I was wondering what suggestions are for outfits. Are there any random unspoken rules - like no white, it’s just for the baby and mother..?? I’m mainly wondering whether I have to make sure my shoulders aren’t bare or hems are below knee etc. I can’t pull off many of the images that came up on Pinterest as I look quite childish young but don’t want to feel underdressed among the family’s social group (think towie levels of dressing up).

I think the family want it to look quite formal as DP (going to be godparent) has been told to wear a suit, so without going full length gown I’m stumped.

Thanks for your advice!

Midi dresses/skirts are in, so they would be both stylish and church-appropriate if you can pull off that look? I would avoid anything cleavage-baring, but if you want to cover your shoulders you can always stick a jacket or cardi over the top of a sleeveless dress/top.

LaDame I love a midi length - it’s actually what I’ve been looking at but wasn’t sure on whether it’s ‘ok’ to go sleeveless or not.

Am flat chested so there will be zero cleavage on show with me
