Handbag help for flight on Sunday!

TailEndCharlie · 22/05/2019 19:02

I need fairly urgent help!! Does anyone know of an ultimate handbag for flights? One big enough for all the stuff we like to have in the bag under the seat in front? The one that isn't a massive bag of doom so I don't lose all the passports when I get to the front of the queue? Or can never find my phone in?!??! I have a bag of doom that the strap is falling off and I am dreading doing another flight with it and the kids! It kinda adds unnecessary stress.... so if your budget was under 200 quid and preferably a lot lower (have bought shoes and oh a car this week!) what would go with? Tan leather for summer or synthetic for lightness while sightseeing? Would be nice if it had a touch of airport chic about it and could be worn crossbody if poss....

So not a lot to ask really....!!!

A Kipling. Am a recent convert. Not elegant, but practical, robust and pretty.

SpeckledyHen · 22/05/2019 19:06

Longchamp Le Pliage is my go to carry - on holiday bag . Large , light lots of colours, packs down when not needed and washable .

TailEndCharlie · 22/05/2019 19:07

I have 3 Kipling hand luggages in this household!!! Love the brand! Have been looking at their handbags as they are very very practical.... maybe another surf there is required!

Look at the MIA Tui bags. Some great choices with them!

azulmariposa · 22/05/2019 19:09

Kipling! I use a practicool for travelling, got plenty of pocket and I use Kipling pouches inside to keep important stuff in.

Alsohuman · 22/05/2019 19:18

I'm in the Longchamps camp. Have two and love them.

HermioneWeasley · 22/05/2019 21:40

I have a small cross body bag that I keep the passports and my phone in and I don’t take it off at all

TSSDNCOP · 22/05/2019 21:55

I'm a Longchamps convert, becomes my beach bag/gym bag at destination.

NormHonal · 22/05/2019 21:57

Small cross-body bag for passports, phone, purse. Then a zippy tote (Longchamp Le Pliage is perfect) for magazines, books etc.

And stick a fold-up carrier bag inside for overflow.

BertBox · 22/05/2019 22:39

I use a changing bag* - nice an roomy with lots of big pockets. Big enough for a change of clothes, kindle, camera, snacks etc.

  • bought without reading it was a changing bag; it took a while to work out what the changing mat was!

I have an oil type Cath Kidston type bag that doubles up as a beach bag on holiday.

fancynancyclancy · 22/05/2019 23:17

Le Pliage or Day Birger et Mikkelsen Gweneth range.

Another vote for the Gweneth bag. Often on sale in TKMaxx. Much prefer these bags to the much pricier Longchamp.

Tarrarra · 23/05/2019 08:39

I have a mia tui bag for travelling. Tons of compartments and it sits on my wheelly suitcase.

MinesaPinot · 23/05/2019 09:09

Kipling Art Tote with the trolley sleeve which unzips and goes over the handles of your suitcase. Really roomy and zips up at the sides so looks like a smart tote when you get to your destination. I travelled hand luggage only with it last year, and popped a cross body inside which had all my travel docs etc in.

Or the Longchamp Le Pliage which works equally as well.

chipsandpeas · 23/05/2019 09:12

i have a kipling halia bag in black and it was great for the flight

Beau321 · 23/05/2019 09:46

Longchamp without a doubt. Timeless and elegant. They last years and are so strong but really light. (Fly regularly to France and some airlines have started weighing handbags as well as carry ons which is annoying) As they fold up into a relatively small size I put a spare one in my carry on. As a family we have a habit of buying multiple books magazines snacks etc etc once airside, so having a spare foldaway shopper is really handy, a bit more chic than a Boots or WH Smith's plastic bag!! If you are worried about misplacing your passports inside your bag, buy a small document holder. I have a lovely leather one. Once we reach our destination I just pop it in the safe and all our documents are easy to grab just in case. Have a lovely well deserved break x

Sosayi · 23/05/2019 10:52

Day Birger
I must have around 10 plus of these bags in different styles the night puffer is my current fav

FreeButtonBee · 23/05/2019 11:04

I use lots of small bags/zippy envelops to separate everything. So A4 reinforced plastic zippy wallet for passports/boarding cards/insurance details/drivers licence etc. Small fabric bag for snacks. Small packing cube for iPads/headphones/chargers/kindle. Then I have a smaller slightly bigger than A5 fabric zippy pouch for keys/phone/tissues/lippy/sunglasses/purse. This way I can use any bag. I currently have a hermosa (total baa sheep instagram purchase) which is soft light spacious but a bit floppy. I like it enough to use it but it’ll prob all be a bit tired by the end of this summer
