Fitting into a wedding dress

So I've been invited to a party where you have to wear your wedding dress. I just dug mine out and tried it on.

It does up at the waist but my back is way too broad now. I'm about 20lbs heavier than when I got married. I doubt I'll be fitting into it in time for this party (although TBF I'd prefer not to wear my wedding dress to a party).

My question is this: obviously there's some pregnancy weight left on (15 years after my third DC Wink) but even if I were to shift the pounds would I even ever fit in to it again? It seems like my entire rib cage is wider than it was before kids. Or could it still be possible?

I don't know. I have a dress from my 18th birthday and even after I lost all my baby weight and was the fittest I've ever been in my life I couldn't get it done up. My body shape just changed after DD.

Both your ribs and hips can spread during pregnancy, and not return quite to the same shape.

Depending how far on you all are with your lives, and given that many people diet for their wedding, and then post-kids are never that slim again, it's a fairly bold party theme 😳

Not to be too personal but is it your ribs or your boobs that are the issue here? Agreed both can spread as we get older.

Violetroselily · 22/05/2019 15:54

Missing the point, but what do unmarried guests wear??

Tavannach · 22/05/2019 15:59

I wouldn't bother tbh. You won't be the only person with this issue, and some people sell their wedding dresses straight away while they're still in fashion and some give them to charity. If you really really have to wear a wedding dress I'd search 'under £10' in wedding dresses on eBay. If you've got a few weeks you'll get one.

Hire a dress or check charity shops. This party sounds a bit like “Look at meeeeee I haven’t gained a gram” type thing.

Is the party organiser a massive attention seeker?

SecretWitch · 22/05/2019 16:04

What type of party is this? I can’t imagine sitting around in a wedding gown with other people dressed in theirs. Hopefully, not a barbeque, anyway..

I could not fit into my wedding gown if slathered in Crisco.

Teddybear45 · 22/05/2019 16:13

If it doesn’t fit it doesn’t fit. Just be honest with the organiser and see what the alternatives are.

What a bizarre dress code for a party.

I weigh the same as I did when I was 18 - 7stone 12lbs. But my waist is now 25 inches. It was only 23 inches back then. My ribs definitely spread out post kids. My body will never look as good as it did pre kids.
