Changing room mirrors in shops

Why do I look so terrible in the mirrors in shops? I look in mirrors at home and look like a normal 50 something size 14/12 sporty/ well dressed woman. Soon as I step into the changing room in shops I look wide and wobbly in my underwear and 99 out of 100 things I try on look ghastly! Thoroughly depressing.. anyone else?

I blame the fluorescent lights rather than the mirrors - agree it is gut renching!

A long time ago a Watchdog type programme looked at changing room mirrors and found that many of them distorted your shape. A bit like fair ground hall of mirrors! Grin.
I agree the fluorescent mirrors also make you look washed out.

If the mirrors made me look wonderful I’d buy many more clothes!

They buy them at the same warehouse as hairdressers’ mirrors 😱

I hate dressing room mirrors! I don't try clothes on anymore because if I do, guarantee I will not buy it Grin

Same! I pick a dress off the rail thinking it's going to make me look great, then try it on in the dressing rooms and I look horrific! Especially those rooms which have a back mirror so you can inspect every dimple of cellulite and every inch of back flab! Nice!

As others have said I think it's the top-down florescent lighting rather than the mirrors themselves. Even Naomi Campbell would cringe under those lights I bet! Or so I'd like to think!

Sorry, it's a DM link, but it's a really interesting comparison of the differences between mirrors in different shops, and why you can wear the same outfit but look great in one shop and awful in another

It's to do with the tilt on the mirror. It can make you look much slimmer than a flat mirror but it's hard to even see they're tilted
