I want to balayage my hair but my stylist said my hair isn’t strong enough, but she is still charging me for a balayage anyway?

Basically at the last salon session, I had a full head of foils on my natural brown hair. However she also lightened the hair that was left out of the foils too, just from the toner. So as my hair has regrown, my natural colour contrasts with the rest of my hair.

I asked for a balayage to drag my roots out, and to contrast the highlights more. But she doesn’t want to highlight my hair in 2 consecutive sessions so told me to wait. She is only going to stretch out my roots and possibly add highlights just at my fringe, but is still charging for a full balayage.

I don’t have a problem her reasoning, but a balayage with her costs £150 then it’s a further £45 for a mandatory blow dry with cut. Seems pointless if I’m not getting the look I want, and just my roots done? To clarify she isn’t going to add balayage highlights but may consider 1/2 near by face on the day.

I think she should be charging you for a half head of highlights not a full balayage.

And not add highlights anywhere else, but I am still being charged for a full balayage service.

That's an awful lot of money Shock! Have you discussed this with them?
Could ring up and ask to confirm the price before you go in?

Ellapaella · 19/05/2019 19:10

That is a very expensive hairdresser btw! I pay £100 for balyage, cut and blow dry with olaplex and I thought that was expensive!

lhastingsmua · 19/05/2019 19:11

That’s what I thought @Ellapaella. I’m paying more than I did last time for essentially a root stretch.

Sorry I meant to add when i had a balayage my hairdresser was discussing it with the colourist who was higher up than him and she told him to charge me more.
I no longer go there!

lhastingsmua · 19/05/2019 19:19

@Summersunshine2 wow that’s such poor service! I feel like my stylist is trying to ‘upsell’ to me too - it doesn’t help that she’s the most senior colourist too so her prices are already high!

The £100 complete service sounds dreamy!

I don’t mind the price, but not if I’m paying for a service that I’m not going to fully benefit from? A balayage should be highlights throughout the hair, not just 1/2 at my fringe.

I think I’m going to get my roots stretched out and leave the highlights so there’s no confusion. Hopefully I’ll be able to get an actual balayage at my next appointment.

I’d find a new hairdresser if mine started those sort of games

lhastingsmua · 20/05/2019 16:47

@GemmeFatale she’s genuinely so good with colour though! The appointment isn’t for 3/4 weeks though so I’m hoping that she may have forgotten this conversation & charge me appropriately

Plenty of good colourists who don’t play silly buggers with pricing. If she wants to charge more for her services that’s fine but this sort of thing is taking the p.

It’s a deal breaker for me. Perhaps it isn’t for you
