Swimming Costume Panic

ImposterSyndrome101 · 19/05/2019 14:44

Going away this summer with (very fit and attractive) friends and I need a swimming costume. I am really not fit or attractive and a short size 18 with big boobs.

Which swimming costume will look the least hideous do you think?

And any recommendations for cover ups and the like would be appreciated.

I'm worried because the guy I like is going and I don't want to look like an elephant. If I could get away with avoiding the beach I would but we're going to go jet skiing and the like and I don't want to put a downer on it.

I like the first one.

Don't like any of the Yours ones sorry - I don't like the swim dresses - just extra material.

I saw one for myself the other day let me have a think where it was from.

And just enjoy yourself and be confident - easier said than done I know x

Greyhound22 · 19/05/2019 15:18

There are two links there.

The Bettylicious swimsuits are lovely.

Lolly86 · 19/05/2019 15:19

First one is nice

ImposterSyndrome101 · 19/05/2019 15:24

@Greyhound22 both of those are nice I'll have a think.

@Lolly86, thanks. I like the first one I'm just worried it might come loose.

I'd advise you to go for less material. More material usually makes people look larger. The cut of the first style will probably cut your thighs at their widest point. If you are curvy, a wrap style suit with a normal leg (as in standard knickers) is probably most flattering. Get a good fake tan, do your nails and hair, wear a big smile and enjoy yourself.

I agree they all just look like extra material which will just add on - ruffles are a good look for no one either! I'd go with either a one colour one piece with the body control panneling and matching sarong/light cotton white shirt over it. Or a 50s style high waisted bikini that draws the eye to your boobs.

agteacht · 19/05/2019 15:26

First one definitely. NOT the dress style ones

Or the blue one from littlewoods PP has just listed is lovely

I like the first one. I would avoid swim dresses. This site has a good range and some with bra sizes for bigger boobs www.figleaves.com/uk/plus-size/swimwear/?link=swim_dlp_plus

toucantoo · 19/05/2019 15:33

I agree with others. Those dresses just scream 'fat lady'. Don't do it. They might cover flesh but they cover flesh by making it clear that you are so huge you can't wear a 'normal' swimsuit.

Also agree that the low cut legs will not do a short curvy girl any favours. Your kegs willl look like stumps. You want normal pant shaped bottom. Look online. There are sites that explain that the bigger the costume the bigger you will look. Giant grant pant styles actually make you look bigger. Of course that doesn't mean go for a string thong. But go for a simple pants cut.

Grasspigeons · 19/05/2019 15:36

Would you consider a bikini? I switched to one last year in a brave moment. It was easier to throw a t shirt over as it dried so much quicker. Noone coukdcsee me in the water. And it was easier to take off and on under my clothes. Otherwise i liked the top one best and the bettylicious one.

Ces6 · 19/05/2019 15:36

The blue Littlewoods one is lovely.

Ces6 · 19/05/2019 15:37

Also yes to a bikini! Easier to find one that suits I think.

Grasspigeons · 19/05/2019 15:37

Oh i didnt see the littlewwods one. That is really nice

Raindropsonroses27 · 19/05/2019 15:40

I feel your pain. I'm a size 14 but definitely put on weight lately and I'm due to go on holiday soon. Finding swimwear has been harder this year than ever before. I've gone for a high waisted bikini.

If you're feeling nervous about having too much flesh out then get a good cover up. I have one that is basically just a poncho with arms. Really light floaty material that you can chuck over the top of a swimsuit or bikini. Covers you up without making you hot.

Don't worry I'm sure you'll look fab whatever you go for x

Askma · 19/05/2019 15:48

I got this for my last holiday, I really liked it because it had a bit of control and underwire with a proper back strap so it felt very supportive.

ImposterSyndrome101 · 19/05/2019 16:01

So from reading replies no dresses and no wacky prints. Get hair and nails done. I'll have to do some googling to find somewhere to get them done because I've never had them done before.

@Askma, I like that. It's nicer than any I've had before.

@Raindropsonroses27, Yeah I'd need a cover up any way.
@Ces6 and @Grasspigeons, I don't know if I'm brave enough for a bikini. My boobs are great but I hate my stomach. I have PCOS so carry all of my weight there. Plus because of that I have a hairy back. Thankfully I'm pale enough you'd not be able to see it but you could feel it. I might buy one and see how I feel wearing it in the house and see if I'd be confident enough to wear it too the beach.

@toucantoo I hadn't thought about the cut of the legs.

@funkythighcollector, thanks for the link I'll have a look at that now.

@Wearywithteens, got to admit I am anything but stylish so hadn't thought about the prints or cut's making me look older than I am.

@agteacht, I think there is a unanimous no dress response. Glad I asked before buying Grin

@FlyingMonkeys, hadn't thought of a sarong. I normally wear a shirt while I'm swimming. Partly to hide and partly to reduce the chance of burning. I think I'd worry about a high waisted bikini from rolling down my stomach.

@Wearywithteens, it's lovely but I doubt it would contain my boobs, and that's quite important because I'm going away with church friends and the guys would probably die Grin

@forkfun, I hadn't thought about the cut of the legs being uncomfortable. I was more worried about the top staying up.

I often wear a pair of board shorts over my costume/tankini, makes me feel more comfortable and also covers up a bit more without frumpiness (I hope!) because it looks sporty. If you are actually going to do sports then would definately be appropriate . Sometimes wear shorts and rash vest over a bikini, stops me burning in the sun. Then if I'm feeling confident can take layers off. Take lots of options is my advice and see how you feel. Hope you have a lovely holiday.

2weeksholiday · 19/05/2019 16:28

I'm a short size 18 and I love my Boden swimsuit, it really holds my tummy in. Good luck

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 19/05/2019 16:35

Do you have a Bravissimo near you?

www.bravissimo.com/products/anya-bandeau-bikini-top-black-ps114blk/

I have this but in a print. It’s incredibly supportive, I was really surprised. It comes with a halter neck strap and that means that the strap isn’t holding your boobs, the top does that already.
