The best control pants/shorts for ‘chub rub’ and smoothing?

Does anyone recommend their control shorts for a holiday so I can wear dresses without the dreaded chub rub! Would also like to ‘smooth’ my shape out a little bit so I think control style would be better for me than cotton cycling shorts or those thigh bands you can get.

I would love for them to be super light weight for the heat. My other problem is my stomach to thigh ratio is slightly insane (I wear a size 8 on top and a 12-14 on bottom) so I struggle with finding a pair that don’t bag around the stomach/waist but then don’t cut my thighs in half Blush

I've just got some from Amazon, searched for cycling shorts and it was three for a tenner. They are lovely and soft, quite lightweight so they are good for hot weather. My only gripe is they are a bit low waisted for me but I often find that as I'm quite long in the body and tall anyway so probably fine for most people.

What sort of fabric are they made from uptoongirl - are they stretchy?

I've been using shorts by sturdy by design - they're regular shorts but with great patterns so I don't mind if I accidentally flash people Grin

I've been wearing sloggi long pants and they're brilliant. No control, but light cotton and have meant I've worn skirts to work without tights this week for the first time in ten years

SospanFrangipan · 18/05/2019 13:40

Maidenform shapewear shorts, or the big tights company do chub rub shorts. There's also ivy verdure stick that is amazing for stopping chub rub, I swear by it on holiday :)

dudsville · 18/05/2019 13:58

I keep old tights for this purpose. Cut off at the ankle and they sit above my knee comfortably, providing the support tights do naturally.

I’ve got a few pairs of the Uniqlo half length shorts which I find good for control, also are a bit longer so don’t cut as high on the thigh as some others.

Good thread op-thanks! Never thought to just wear shorts!Grin

Website called big bloomers! They do comfort shorts from size 14 up!

Namechangedagain2 · 18/05/2019 14:19

Avon are now doing chafing bands that you put over your thighs, genius!!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 18/05/2019 14:21

Mitchum roll-on deodorant also works for chub rub

Thallo · 18/05/2019 14:26

If it's going to be hot do you really want to be wearing control wear? Your body can puff out a bit in warm weather so I can't imagine they'd be too comfy.

evilharpy · 18/05/2019 14:28

Snag tights do chub rub shorts. I've not tried them but the tights are great so I'd imagine the shorts are good too.

pigsinarow · 18/05/2019 14:42

Thanks everyone.

snagtights.com/collections/80-denier-opaque-chub-rub-shorts/products/stay-cool-chub-rub-shorts-builders-tea these look good, interesting sizing guide.

McAvennie the uniqlo ones are just what I had in my mind.

And thanks dudsville for reminding me of the tights trick - I used to do that years ago but had forgotten!

Mitchum is a must for me too - I seem to have more sweat glands in my crotch than anywhere else on my body.

Jockey skimmed slipshorts. Absolute game changer.

Haven't read the whole thread yet but this product has utterly transformed my summers. Liquid talc basically. A £10 tube lasted me all last summer.

UpToonGirl · 18/05/2019 15:26

They're 92% polyester 8%spandex, I know people hate polyester but I think they're fine. They've got a fair amount of stretch in them.

More comfortable than proper shaping shorts but as smoothing on lumps and bumps.

stucknoue · 18/05/2019 15:48

Next have them too

NicoAndTheNiners · 18/05/2019 15:53

I got some sort of chub rub bands last year, can't remember where from but they're great....then you can wear whatever underwear you want. Plus you could use them a few times before needing to wash.

www.amazon.co.uk/Bandelettes-Elastic-Thigh-Prevent-Chafing-x/dp/B01FOI0HHS?tag=mumsnetforu03-21. This sort of thing. Looks like Sainsbury's and new look sell them now as well.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 18/05/2019 15:55

I used Body Glide last year.
It’s a thing for cyclists to prevent their Lycra chaffing.
It’s amazing.
