DH in a arica... What to get from duty free?

He's flying out of Chicago tomorrow night... I'm thinking perfume as I've run out but I'm not loving anything right now and only really get it for birthdays and Xmas, I used to like clinique aromatics elixir but think it's too overpowering really, like things that are fairly heavy but not over the top... Or skincare?
He said he's getting it on expenses as he's been away over a week whilst I've been unwell, so it's like my payment for putting up with being on my own for a week... 😁

That was meant to be America... Fat fingers... Do they do something for that?!

Chicago is bloody expensive...I guarantee you could buy cheaper at home. Ask him to send prices over and Google.

...just read full post...if going on expenses...anything....Grin

O’Hare is a dump with very little in the way of shopping. You can get most perfumes and an ok selection of cosmetics but nothing like Heathrow- sorry I can’t remember what brands they have because I always wait until I’m flying home from London to buy. It won’t be cheap because nothing is in Chicago but if he can genuinely get away with that sort of stuff on expenses then I’d get some perfume because why not, and you definitely deserve it. Otherwise, please apologise to him for how terrible the airport is and if he has lounge access I’d suggest he hot foots it there rather than wondering past another Auntie Anne’s pretzel stand in search of some skincare!

Well, it didn't really go to plan as there was horrible traffic on the way to the airport, he missed his flight, he's now in a motel he said is worse than bates motel and I guess is trying to get a flight tonight...
He said the same about the airport, also had a day in Chicago and just said it was odd, kept wandering around and found a couple of parks but not much else.. No shops really! I'll give up on a gift, just want him home now...

I've never found anything in a duty free that I couldn't get cheaper elsewhere. Next time he's heading to the states, give him a list of goodies to get from the drugstore.

dudsville · 18/05/2019 14:04

Urgh, isn't o'hare still under reconstruction? Absolute pita. The only deals you'll get df are American made items tax free.

Expressedways · 18/05/2019 14:43

Oh no that sounds like such a disaster! Hope he gets home safe. Yes there’s essentially one big shopping street and you’d never find it if just wondering around the loop! Better luck for a good gift next trip.

Oh dear, that sounds grim. The only thing I stock up on is melatonin as you can buy it off-prescription in the states ( classed as a good supplement). Can't think of any duty-free stuff that's worth it ( although I've been known to go crazy in Sephora). DH buys Ralph Lauren shirts and polo shirts there as they are cheaper and he's been sent out this time with an order for a Kate Spade handbag I've been eyeing up. Also, I love clothes from Loft which you can't get here.

MabelMoo23 · 18/05/2019 15:58

I'm off to the US in a couple of weeks and won't bother buying stuff, will get in duty free - the absolute dire exchange rate means nothing is cheaper, if it is, it's literally pence

I do love a rummage though in CVS for stuff you can't buy here

Did he miss the Magnificent Mile?
