Help! I need clothes for conference next week

I am going to a work conference next week and I need some suitable clothes! Ideally shift dresses and trousers and jackets and something for a dinner which is corporate but dressy. Some flat shoes and some heels and a bag

I need to look effortlessly classy and sophisticated. Current wardrobe doesn't cut it!

I'm size 14 hourglass shape

Please help!

Budget? Usual style? Where do you normally shop? Cake

Lenny1980 · 16/05/2019 18:42

Don’t know your budget but I would try Hobbs. Some lovely dresses and jackets. I’ve never got on with their trousers but you may have more luck!

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 18:44

Don’t ask me. Rubbish at conference dressing. Invariably overcome with remorse as I cross the threshold of the venue - though I was perfectly happy with my reflection in the mirror at home ...

Soz ...

M and s Debenhams next normally

Budget whatever it takes to feel comfortable as I'm fed up of work wardrobe so happy to invest

I'm quite short with short arms so I find petite stuff good but I do have a big bust

Hobbs is great for this kind of stuff. Next also has some nice suits usually, although haven't had a look recently.

When I travel for work I pack a dark dress, dark skirt and dark trousers. A couple of jackets and tops and it all makes loads of combinations.

luckygreeneyes · 16/05/2019 22:02

Where is it? Weather in UK is looking cooler next week

PeachMelba78 · 16/05/2019 22:35

Reiss, Linea and some Zara basics are my go to. I tend to wear a dress if I am speaking at a conference, and a skirt top jacket combo if I am just attending.

beeyourself · 17/05/2019 00:31

These dresses from H&M are always good https://m2.hm.com/m/en_gb/productpage.0550309001.html

Oblomov19 · 17/05/2019 11:12

That H&M dress looks good, but is completely out of stock.

beeyourself · 17/05/2019 21:24

It's in stock in shops - I saw it last week in grey/navy/black/red

NigellasGuest · 17/05/2019 21:35

Try The Fold if budget no problem.

helpwithwardrobe · 18/05/2019 20:29

Thanks for replies

Can't stretch to the fold prices sadly. So I've exhausted m and s next Debenhams and house of Fraser. Have found nothing suitable! I want a trouser suit with stretch a 3/4 type jacket in a colour a black shift dress and some coordinating tops!

Please help!

Is boden any good?

I tried Zara and couldn't find any jackets

I tried mango

I tried lk Bennett and was scared by prices

I got a nice black dress from gap which I incidentally wore for a conference this week

RoomR0613 · 18/05/2019 20:55

Next is (bizarrely)your friend here. If you go online they have a mixture of brands not just next either next day delivery ( all the following links are next)

Black Hobbs dress it's pricey but worth every penny. Versatile and generous around the boobs. Feels amazing to wear considering it's 'just' a black dress.

795 other shift dresses

low heeled shoes very comfy to wear, if they aren't your style look for any others in the forever comfort range.

I do loads of international conferences and trade shows, and have this same panic every bloody time. I hate it!!

I never feel quite right. Cue panic buying stuff before I go.i did it today in fact as got one coming up. It's not as though I don't know that I'm going because I do.

Problem is, I can't afford Hobbs, The Fold or Boden and have to make do with Next etc and I never feel quite right. Too much summer stuff around now as well. I don't want to look like I work in a bank but also I don't want to look like I'm sat on the beach.

Arrrrgghhhhh

RoomR0613 · 18/05/2019 21:04

Mabel I can't afford Hobbs either normally but I got drunk one night and felt really dowdy and shut and bought a load of new clothes I wouldn't usually buy. I definitely got my monies worth out of the Hobbs dress I linked above, it just wears well and feels so good and grown up to wear, and because it's black I can get away with wearing it over and over again like a man can with a suit.

CountFosco · 18/05/2019 22:02

Boden is good for petite but can't remember what size the petite range goes up to, it's much less than the normal range.

PeachMelba78 · 18/05/2019 22:29

Linea was the HoF own brand. Clean lines and sharp shapes but I haven’t been in since the buy out by Sports Direct.

Oblomov19 · 19/05/2019 18:07

Op, yesterday I had a Debenhams personal shopper. She was fab, free, 2 hours. I got a black skirt, black work trousers, a top, a lovely work dress, and a shift dress. For £72. Bargain. Highly recommend it!

itsboiledeggsagain · 19/05/2019 18:10

Wallis has a good petit range
