5ft 4 size 12 clothes - what suits you

I am 5ft 4 and size 12. I bought a wedding outfit last year and was told I am an hourglass shape during the consultation. However, I struggle all the time to find nice clothes. I usually go for black trousers and a plain top.
I always considered myself apple shape as I have a fat pouch below my bellybutton and try to hide it. My boobs are OK, could be firmer, but that's life :-)
I spent a day shopping today and got the lovely contour jeans from tesco and nothing else as I felt so frumpy.
What do you ladies of a similar size/shape wear for the summer and what styles do you go for generally? I am the shortest of my sisters ( tall slim 5ft 6 ) so we never share style tips.

I'm 5'3 and a size 12, hourglass but with a belly, and honestly I just think you have to try stuff on. Sometimes I'll rule out a particular style because of my stomach or arms, but then once in a while I'll try something in that style and find it suits, just because it's maybe cut slightly differently/in a forgiving fabric/pattern or simply that it manages to draw the eye to the good bits and not the bad. One thing I would say suits me is a fifties style skirt as they fit at my slimmest part but then flare out, also skater dresses, but I'd rather not wear that style all the time.

If you go shopping and try a bunch of stuff that you love, rather than analysing whether the style will suit you, I think you enjoy it more and you will find stuff that suits you.

Thanks CadburySpira for the tips.
I tried on a lot of clothes yesterday but couldn't find something suitable. I am 40 and l have picked up some nice clothes in Wallis for work. I find it's a bit expensive on my budget but their jackets and jeggings are nice. I will try the skater dresses on my next trip to the shops. There's a few family events coming up, so I really need a few smart casual things in the wardrobe as there's a few stylish ladies attending.
What shops do you get most of your clothes? I would love smart white cropped trousers / jeggings ( that aren't see through to my lovely tummy Grin)

You could try a cami and casual blazer with your new jeans, I find that a pretty flattering smart casual look. I mostly shop in H&M, but it's hit and miss with the quality. I use ASOS a lot because they have such a vast selection so you can really specify on your search what you're after....even though I've just told you to not be specific and try what you love! I think online shopping is different in that way as I never really love anything I see online like I might in real life!
