Is it me or the epilator?

I’ve had my epilator for about 13 years but never got on very well with it so it hasn’t been used that much.
I’ve now been using it for about 2 months on my underarms. I persevered with the pain in hopes of a smooth finish lasting for a while but it hasn’t happened. I have been trying to spread it out as long as possible but it needs doing again within 3 days or so.
The epilator is a cordless but doesn’t hold the charge well so I wonder if I should get another and would then get good results or whether to just abandon it and go back to shaving.
Any epilator experts who can advise?

Is it definitely pulling all the hair out? I had one many years ago and it just used to snap the hairs, most them anyway so it was no better than shaving but way more painful! Waxing has always done a similar thing.

Got myself a lumea last year, amazing decision. I've been wearing a dress all week without touching a razor in about a month. I know they're expensive and not everyone is suited to them but I wish I hadn't dicked around with other methods for long!

Thanks Uptoongirl.
Yes, I’m not sure it is getting all the hair out. Have looked at the Lumeas, they look amazing!
