Dress for apple shape - wedding guest

I’ve bought this dress online, but it doesn’t look right on me, and the fabric is not smart enough (polyester, so it looks like a flag according to DH) So back to square one.
Budget is £50, I’m a size 14 (apart from my tummy, which is more 16/18) 5’7.
Wedding is mostly outside, and in a wooden barn.
Please inspire me!

Any suggestions?
I’m fair skinned, mousy blonde. Green/blue eyes, so I find that turquoise/teal suits me, but I’m happy to try different colours.
Thanks.

Over budget but this looks as though it'd be flattering. I have the same shape.

Interesting shape, I’ll have to see if I can find a cheaper alternative.

Size up on that phase eight dress, I bought it last year in a 10 (I am generally a 10) and it's tight below the bust / upper stomach, there is no give in the material.

Boden have lovely dresses but probably over budget.

I have the same shame as you op and I find it so difficult!

I'm the same shape as you but shorter and I've got this for a wedding www.prettylittlething.com/dusty-blue-floral-pleated-midi-dress.html

Never thought of looking on that site as I am way over the age I think they cater for but saw it on a fb group and thought yep, I like that.
The wedding I'm going too is also outside and in a barn so maybe I shouldn't share 😁

Haha @thedishonthecoffeetable let’s match Grin that’s actually a very pretty dress indeed!

@gettingtherequickly good to know, thanks! I definitely don’t want a tight fit in that area as it gets uncomfortable.

I’ll have a look at boden, but I really can’t spend more.

I spotted this one, I’m going to go into town to try it on, it looks like there might be enough give around the waist, what do you think?
