I accidentally started curly girl. What do I need to know?

I half heartedly read a couple of things and looked at some before / after curly girl pics. I was due a hair wash the next day, so just to try it out I washed my hair with conditioner. I put lots on and really rubbed it in, then rinsed it out well

My hair looked clean after, not greasy as it was before the 'wash'

I have done this 3 times now. My hair is still clean. It's been about 10 days since my last shampoo.

I normally shampoo every ~4-5 days, so I'm washing more often as my hair needs it, but only with conditioner

Should I just keep on and see what happens? Do I need to think about anything else? Should I was with a special shampoo then start again?

I currently get my hair dyed every ~10 weeks. If it's going to take me 3 or 4 weeks to get my hair sorted, then I put dye and bleach on it and wash this out thoroughly, does that mean I have to start again every time I dye it?

Further info, my hair is 40 yrs old, definitely going grey in lots of patches, really thick and has a slight wave. It's never been curly, I effectively treat it as straight hair and it always has a horrible kink in it. I fancy seeing what the natural wave does given a chance

A friend commented on how nice and shiny it looked today!

I am curly and do curly girl , I also get my hair highlighted . I personally don't go wash but use silicone free shampoo and conditioner most of the time .. have you got a product to put in to encourage the curl ? I use cantu or sometimes tigi bedhead .

I don't use any products, I'm a wash and drip dry gal. So all I've done is stopped using shampoo to wash!

Is the curl product an important part of it? This is the kind of info I need! Grin

It can be too much for wavy hair. I found a curly girl for wavy hair article the other day and it explains what changes you need to make to stop it overwhelming your hair.

Well if I left my hair to it's own devices then it would be hideous so yes for me is important .. you probably have curly hair but it won't appear without product .. try scrunching through some curl creme and diffusing it .

I think a lot of people are realising that SLS is unnecessary in their beauty products. I've just ditched it from my toothpaste and facial cleanser too.

My hair is wavy and I can get a good curl if I follow CG method to the letter, but tbh I can't be faffed with it any more. I'm still using sls and silicone free conditioner and gel, but I'm now blow drying it after waiting for the cast to harden. My hair takes all day to dry otherwise, and I look like a scarecrow! The end result is wavy, less frizzy hair so that's worth it to me.

It might be worth checking with the curlies on the Facebook group that your conditioner is silicone free, as most aren't and it will build up in your hair over time and look heavy/ greasy. Sounds like you've found something that works well for your hair though!
