Help me sort my coarse, frizzy hair!

Any recommendations for leave-in conditioners or masks for shoulder-length, thick, coarse, prone-to-frizz hair? I use OGX’s Brazilian Keratin shampoo and conditioner which was working really well when it was only being washed a couple of times a week, but I’ve started a new exercise regime so it’s getting washed every other day now and it’s looking dreadful!
Thanks in advance Smile

Don't use shampoo every other day just rinse it well and use conditioner. Only use shampoo about once a week.

There's a name for this but I can't for the life of me remember it....wash your hair backwards!!
Condition first then shampoo! yes really.
For some reason it temporarily smooths the frizz. It improves mine quite a lot. It does, however, make it greasier quicker but well worth the immediate effect for me.
I am having to take extra care of my hair at the moment due to a vitamin D deficiency (I've lost shit loads :( and it's so rubbish atm) so I'm using Olaplex no3 as a mask - it does nothing for growth but it is slowly improving the condition, being less frizzy is a big bonus.
I personally find kerotin hair products do nothing for me.

Have you tried curly girl method?

I highly recommend Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Caster oil masque, it’s amazing.

Hellywelly10 · 13/05/2019 20:13

Try wraping your hair after washing it. Its a very easy tecnique to tame afro hair. Can you get away with dry shampoo to prolong time between washes.

PickAChew · 13/05/2019 20:20

If you're needing to wash it daily, try a co-wash. And yes to curly girl method. My (also coarse, prone to frizz) hair has been so much happier since giving up silicones. I've been using Cantu shampoo and conditioner, which it loves.

Curly girl method, definitely. Ditch the suphates and silicone. I cowash, apply leave in, add curl activator then gel. Sorted.

Thank you everyone! Off to google curly girl method...

The trepadora products are my favourite. And a spray bottle of water to revive curls.

PickAChew · 13/05/2019 22:39

Gorgeous curls, sexnotgender

Mine are only wavy wannabes, but I get a cute ringlet by my left ear :D

ColdTiredFoggy · 13/05/2019 22:42

Use Curlbot to find out if the products are silicon/sulphate/nasty alcohol free. www.curlsbot.com/ Cut and paste ingredients list into it and it will tell you.

Look at only curls products

gassylady · 17/05/2019 18:41

I have fine but thick wavy hair. Would the cantu be ok for me or too heavy?? Anyone with experience

MerryDeath · 17/05/2019 18:55

curly girl method

Sexnotgender · 17/05/2019 18:57

@gassylady I LOVE cantu, it can be quite heavy but just water it down or use less of it. It's not mega expensive so you've not lost out if you don't like it.

gassylady · 18/05/2019 08:32

I thought it was worth a go at such a reasonable price, would not have thought about watering it down so will give it a whirl next time I’m near a superdrug

ThatCurlyGirl · 18/05/2019 13:21

Another curly girl convert here!

Shampoo before conditioner, personally I just detangle with my fingers and then spray on a dry angle spray when the curls start bouncing upward as they dry.

Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance spray works perfectly for me, I can even get away with using it to refresh curls that are dry with a few sprays and a little scrunching by hand.

Here it is shorter and then now a bit longer. Wouldn't go back to straight now, it's lovely getting comments on it being really curly I never realised how rare it is!

If I detangle and then roll each natural curl around my finger then let it go I can also get ringlets the equivalent of my childhood Irish dancing wig Grin

Tried the Cantu and really like it. Did shampoo then conditioner seemed to work well. Not so keen on the curl activator seemed heavy and made hair crunchy Confused. Have the Aussie spray to try next Grin
