Mulberry bags

They were never on my radar as I don't wear expensive bags. The most expensive bag I've had was under 200 pounds. Yesterday reading one of AIBU thread, the OP was looking for a Lily and I looked and it was just gorgeous. I got one over lunchtime because I had no self control and it was 50% off.
I am now eyeing for a Bayswater which is also 50% off at the moment. My question is, is it worth getting? I just can't justify spending another £500 but it's so classic! They do seem to age quite badly? I know some people like it that way, but I am not great at taking care of my bags. They'd be on the floor under my desk, not treated with leather protection, etc.

I had a few mulberry bags , I'm not overly precious with them and then have lasted really well.. where are they 50% off though?
I usually get mine from Bicester.

LotsToThinkOf · 11/05/2019 11:18

My Bayswater is my most favourite purchase ever, I've had it 12 years and although it's aged it doesn't look scruffy. Well worth it, but where have you found one with 50% off! I'd buy that, definitely Smile.

It's on BrandAlley. The colour is pebble though, I wish it's oak. What colour are your Bayswater?

I have a dark blue / navy one . Oaks are rarely discounted , it's only that cheap because of the colour . The outlets are great.

OrangeJellySpread · 11/05/2019 14:50

Bayswater in Navy sounds beautiful! I don't live anywhere near a Mulberry outlet unfortunately. Just signed up myself to be notified when there's a sale.

Orangejelly - have you considered a pre - loved one ? There is a beautiful genuine oak one on eBay at the moment from a very reputable seller .

LotsToThinkOf · 11/05/2019 15:39

I have a chocolate one, it's beautiful 😍

Verite1 · 11/05/2019 15:41

I’ve got several mulberrys. I hardly ever use my Bayswater as it’s so heavy and I find it uncomfortable. My most useful one is a small del Rey. Big enough for everyday but still elegant enough for evening. I use it loads.

Emmapeeler · 11/05/2019 15:43

My mum has a Bayswater, has had it years, its a lovely bag. I have two different mulberry bags courtesy of her (not today’s prices - factory shop). They are years old and have barely aged, and I do not look after bags. And 50% sounds a bargain Wink

Clearyweary · 11/05/2019 16:05

I love the look of the Bayswater. I HATE it as a bag. Heavy, cumbersome and I cannot carry it on my shoulder. I got one for a big birthday 4 years ago. I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve probably used it 5 times due to the reasons outlined above. Keep meaning to get round to selling it, but haven’t yet. I have the Lily too though - absolutely adore that one!

OrangeJellySpread · 11/05/2019 16:12

I've decided not to go for the BrandAlley pebble one. In case anyone is interested here's the link:

Will look at second hand for tan/oak colour instead. Thanks @SpeckledyHen I'll try to find the seller you meant. Do you have the name by any chance?

I agree Bayswater doesn't look practical at all, but it's so elegant isn't it? Sigh.

I have a few and I love them. I actually like them in the more unusual colours. What colour is pebble? If it’s a good nude/grey it could be a great neutral and would pretty much go with everything, depending on what colours you tend to wear.

Ninkaninus · 11/05/2019 16:14

Oh that’s a gorgeous colour! More interesting than oak. I have an Anya Hindmarch in a very similar shade and I get so much use out of it, especially in summer.

But good luck on finding something that suits you better.

Ninkaninus · 11/05/2019 16:17

Naughty pigeon’s nest does lots of pre-loved Mulberry.

Ninkaninus · 11/05/2019 16:19

I adore the Mulberry rosewater colour. Am going to get a tote bag of some description in that colourway at some point.

OrangeJellySpread · 11/05/2019 16:55

Thanks @SpeckledyHen and @Ninkaninus oh no, you lovely ladies are enablers! Grin

I fully admit I am an awful handbag enabler. I’m not even sorry. Grin

PugPupsMum · 11/05/2019 17:06

I have a Darley in Grey and use it often - love it. It’s a small bag but I like that as it prevents me carrying around a load of junk I don’t need

Yes, I’ve definitely gone over to the small bag side lately - used to carry huge totes (still do for work) but now I prefer smaller crossbody bags for sure. So much nicer to just have a crossbody with a few essentials (but then my children are adults so I don’t need to carry a load of stuff with me anymore).

I like Harlow, Amberley, Darley and Hampstead. I’ve got an Abbey for this year which I’m looking forward to using over the summer.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 11/05/2019 19:32

I have a mini kite in oxblood. I do love it, but I'm not sure I'd ever buy another at full price. My hankering after a Lilly was satisfied by a Ted Baker bag which was similar, so served the same purpose, was well made and a fraction of the price.

Ninkaninus · 11/05/2019 19:34

I’ve never bought a Mulberry (or indeed any designer bag) at full price.

I like the kite. Also love the Tyndale.

I like so many bags...

Sexnotgender · 11/05/2019 19:41

Big Mulberry fan, older stuff though. I have around 10.
I very rarely buy new or if I do it’s in the sale.

There’s a GORGEOUS green Bayswater on labelsmostwanted right now labelsmostwanted.co.uk/stock/

TattiePants · 11/05/2019 20:52

I'm also a big fan of older Mulberrys. I've downsized a lot over the last few years as I don't use them enough now I work from home but still have about 12 bags. They've all aged well and I'm not precious with my bags at all. If you are happy with pre-loved then there are some great facebook groups but always get secondhand bags authenticated first.
