Boiled wool jacket

I have a pale grey boiled wool jacket/coat. It is looking a bit grubby(!) I have previously had it dry cleaned which didn't really do too much to make it look better. I am wondering whether I would be better just to wash it? Either on a wool cycle or by hand. It is not lined.
Anyone had any experience of this? I wash my cashmere sweaters on the wool cycle and they are fine. I'm a bit nervous to shrink it, but it's boiled wool, so presumably won't get much smaller??!
Thanks ...

I wouldn't put it in a washing machine at first, I'd try gently hand washing it in lukewarm water (not hot) with some special cleaning liquid for wool. I mean it might be fine in a washing machine but I wouldn't risk it at first, I'd be very gentle with it.

You'd think boiled wool probably doesn't get much smaller but it can turn into felt if not cared for properly. I speak from bitter experience after I hand washed a Joesph boiled wool sweater in not even lukewarm water and Qoolite.

Please do not put in the machine or hand wash, get it dry cleaned. Take it to a specialist cleaner - if you're in London, take it to Jeeves of Belgravia. And if you're not in London, be very specific and tell them it looks grubby and you want it refreshed. It should look decidedly cleaner when you collect.

It would be a nightmare to dry, you cannot spin it , or put it near heat. It would smell of damp rather than dry.

I had a lovely grey boiled wool cardigan/jacket that I washed accidentally (40 degrees) when it got mixed up in the pile. It would have fitted by 2 yo when it came out 😭

Thank you. On balance I will find a good dry cleaners. Which is very unlike me - I am normally impetuously optimistic which usually leads to disappointment! But I really like this jacket and haven't seen anything I could replace it with so I don't really want to risk a felty wet dog smelling arrangement! Thanks Stylers.
