40th Birthday

Hello, I need some advice on a suitable outfit for a 40th birthday party. It’s an outdoor affair, bbq, cocktails , music etc.

I just have no clue. All my clothes are out of fashion since I had babies, and I just don’t have time to shop. Plus I don’t know how to dress at 40 😕 Any suggestions gratefully recieved.
Happy to trawl internet and have a mass delivery and try stuff on. Just don’t know where to start.

I am 40, 5’2” and about a size ten. But I am quite stocky and muscular so nothing frilly. My legs are good. V small boobs. Chunky arms and back and slim hips, no waist, good bum.

Oh also we are ‘down south’ and I want to avoid anything ‘TOWIE’ like.

I’m 40 soon is it my bbq you’re coming to!!

I’ve a few events coming up and I’ve bought the Next culottes recommneded on here! Love them! I’ll be wearing them with a gorgeous Numph nigh neck blouse and tan heels! Probably sounds awful but it really looks nice!

Would something like that work?

Oh that looks really nice blueriver I was looking at your photo to see if I recognised you. Wouldn’t that be funny.

I will have a look at Next online. That would be a good start! Thank you

My starting suggestion (as somebody down south, approximately your age, size and height!) is a denim dress (legs on shows, boobs not required, arms covered, no frills). Can be dressed up with a chunky/interesting necklace and dressed up or down depending on whether you wear it with trainers or sandals or boots or whatever.

Warehouse have got some nice ones:

www.johnlewis.com/warehouse-utility-denim-dress-dark-wash/p4045090 (available in a 10 only)
www.johnlewis.com/warehouse-asymmetric-denim-shirt-dress-mid-wash/p4035138

Do you have a budget in mind? Colours you like to wear?

And somebody will be along to tell you to buy a jumpsuit in a minute Grin

Loving the look BlueMan.

thankyoudebbie I do love a denim dress and have a lovely one, I could accessorise to update. Thank you, I hadn’t thought of that. And you are right, shirt dresses work really well on me. Legs on show, problem areas covered.

I actually like a jump suit/ play suit but not sure if they are a bit young for me now 🤷🏼‍♀️

Budget up to about £60 I guess

Definitely not! We don't do 'too old for' in S&B Wink

Inspired by another thread I read on here earlier... a hairband might be a good update too and suits an outdoor-y/cocktail-y vibe: www.stories.com/en_gbp/accessories/hair-accessories/product.braided-hairband-rust.0738563001.html
