Do I need a fascinator?

I have never been to one and the only person I’ll know is dh...🤦🏻‍♀️

Who tells everyone I’m stunningly gorgeous and perfect. I’m currently taking roaccutane so this is not true.

I have the fear Sad

Nice dress, no fascinator.

Knittedfairies · 08/05/2019 20:20

Smart but no fascinator.

isittheholidaysyet · 08/05/2019 20:22

Smart casual to smart.
Not as smart as a wedding.

Does depend a little on the family though. And how they see it.

Twickerhun · 08/05/2019 20:24

Jeans are ok wear to christenings round here. Depends on the circumstances but dont worry, wear what you’ve got and don’t got over the top.

CalmConfident · 08/05/2019 20:25

Smart, but no hats or fascinators. Think “ work smart” sartorial level

katienana · 08/05/2019 20:26

I always think holly Willoughby on this morning is dressed for a christening. Use her as a start point

Sexnotgender · 08/05/2019 20:28

Smart but not wedding smart.

Nice dress and cardigan or chinos and nice top that kind of thing.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/05/2019 20:31

It’s in a naice area.

I was thinking Karen millen dress?.

Karen Millen dress would be great I’m sure.

I wouldn't bother with a fascinator to a christening. Any I've gone to I've just worn a smart dress.

Katterinaballerina · 08/05/2019 20:37

No fascinator. I’ve seen men in jeans and trainers and women in dresses that are more Ladies day at Aintree (without any headgear.) Katienana is right. Holly Willoughby on This Morning is a good guide.

Sexnotgender · 08/05/2019 20:38

That’s lovely OP.

stucknoue · 08/05/2019 21:00

Depends where, small rural parish church close family or cathedral with a guest list of 100, sit down meal etc!

I work for a church and we've seen everything. Generally I would say a paired down wedding outfit, eg a cardigan instead of a jacket maybe and no hat. Avoid killer heels as there's quite a bit of standing especially if the baptism is within the main Eucharist service on a Sunday. Ps have a contribution ready as the plate will be passed around, people get really flustered when they can't locate money and people are watching!

Rooftree · 08/05/2019 21:35

One step below a wedding ime

goose1964 · 08/05/2019 21:44

When I went to DGS3s christening it was probably what you'd think of as Sunday Best.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/05/2019 15:46

Right, will remember the contribution.

Is this a Protestant thing? I've only ever been to Catholic christenings and have never seen a collection.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/05/2019 16:14

It was passed around at my adult christening, probably my wedding too.

Think I wore jeans to my christening but no one makes a fuss when your 32. I didn’t even get an after party.

OP posts:
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/05/2019 16:24

If it’s part of the main Sunday service there will definitely be a collection. Never seen one at a christening outside of a Sunday service though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/05/2019 16:46

The church timetable says Sunday service is done and dusted by 10am. So not part of a service.

No one would invite me anywhere if they knew how much stress it caused me. Oh well.

Church occasions require hats imo. Everyone wears a hat at the Royal christenings so I’d assume that’s correct. It’s shocking that people wear jeans to church!

Katterinaballerina · 09/05/2019 16:53

Have you ever been to church RaptorWhiskers?

ImposterSyndrome101 · 09/05/2019 16:56

How smart it is depends on the church but generally no fascinator, some people do wear them or a fancy hat but I think that's personal preference tbh.
