Biotin for hair

Hello Everyone,
Does or has anyone taken biotin supplements for their hair?
If so, any improvements?
How long before you noticed any improvements?
Or am I wasting my money?

Thank you 🙂

I've been on it for almost two months. Initially I wanted it for growth. I can say I've noticed any growth but I think it's too early. I think I've noticed the condition is better but I've started using different products too so it's hard to tell whether they are responsible.

*can't

Thanks @MINEareCRAFTy do you mind me asking how many grams you take? Or however yours is measured please. Thank you.

I am taking biotin for my hair and nails, my hair has got very thin in parts, 3 almost bald patches, although i dont think it is regrowing, the rest of my hair is growing very fast, and in better condition in general
I really hope it will help the regrowth but might take time if it does
I am taking 1000 iu
I think it is worth giving it a try if it is just for condition, my nails are much better too, after ruining them with glue ons

Following, I started taking it about 3 weeks ago. No difference yet!

My hairdresser said that iron and sea kelp are the best things to take for hair. Have you checked your iron levels? I was losing big clumps when my levels were too low.

Dobbyhasnomaster · 08/05/2019 21:13

I used biotin and it was fantastic for me!!!

churchthecat · 08/05/2019 21:19

@Dobbyhasnomaster what did it do?

Dobbyhasnomaster · 08/05/2019 21:23

@churchthecat Made my hair grow faster (and in good condition).I lost quite a bit of hair when I was on the pill, so I took it to encourage regrowth and I was really pleased with it.

churchthecat · 08/05/2019 21:28

@Dobbyhasnomaster Excellent. How long did it take to notice a difference?

Dobbyhasnomaster · 08/05/2019 21:33

@churchthecat probably a month - 6 weeks before I really noticed at all and a few months for a real difference

SlumMumBum · 08/05/2019 21:42

I've just started the Philip Kingsley trichotheraphy set and the supplement is a combination of biotin and iron. I'm about a month in and my hair feels thicker.

I'd be mindful of biotin interference in blood tests, it causes clinically significant incorrect lab test results if you're being tested for thyroid problems and heart attacks. Biotin is used in the manufacture of the blood tests so could actually interfere with many more different test results (still being researched)

The risks aren't that well known so thought I'd drop my 2 pence in Grin

HB29 - that's v interesting! Never knew and good to know. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for all your comments. I think I'm going to give them a go for a few months.

What works for one person, may not for another. But unless I try I'll never know.

My hair has gone thinner over the last 6-8 months. As it's quite long, I think I need to give it at least 6 months of taking biotin to notice a difference. And if it gives me more energy, that will be an added welcomed bonus 🙂
