Wedding outfit for size 16-18

We have a wedding to go to in 6 weeks’ time and I need an outfit but I’m really struggling to find anything in my size 16-18 that looks nice.

I’ve tried a few different dress styles on but one way or another they look awful. Tbh I don’t think I suit dresses and very rarely wear one (last time was when I was slim 3 years ago) but it just seems to be the only acceptable attire for women at a wedding (I’d rather wear black trousers & dressy top, heels & accessories!).

Does anyone have any recommendations for retailers that do well-cut clothes that don’t cost the earth please? Budget about £50. I’ve trawled the High St and not impressed so far.

I really don’t like pastels, loud patterns and florals (tiny bit ok if the rest of the outfit is a block colour), jumpsuits, empire line, sleeveless, chiffon.

I used to be a size 10-12 but unfortunately blew up like a balloon following some medical issues which are now resolved. I am a pear shape with big stomach/muffin top, bottom & hips. Currently doing the Blood Sugar Diet and have almost dropped to a comfortable size 16 but of course I can’t guarantee what size I’ll be by the time of the wedding.

Thanks

What is your shape like?

This is probably not the done thing, but I have a dress that I wore for a few hours. It was quite expensive (for me anyway). I can send it to you if you'd like to try it.

It's been dry cleaned and it does cover all the bits and bumps! I won't be wearing it again and if it suits you, the why not! It has sat in wardrobe for two years !
