Using false eyelashes

I want to try false eyelashes. I've only had them on once when I had makeup professionally done when I was bridesmaid. I loved the effect! So I'm heading out on a special night out next week and as I can't afford to get makeup done I thought I'd try the eyelashes myself.

I've bought "strip" lashes that came with a little tube of adhesive. Do I put them on after I've done all my eye makeup? Or before? Are there any particular tips I should follow? Or a good YouTube tutorial? I really hope they stay put I have visions of them slipping off over the course of the night!!

Hi OP,

There will be lots of different advice I'm sure but the way I always use them is apply all eye makeup apart from mascara then apply the strip, then can touch up with some mascara after but not always necessary.
I always do winged eyeliner and this helps the strip blend in, then I put the strip straight on top, as close to the lashes as possible.
Also, apply the glue to the strip then wait at least 10 seconds. This means the glue is stickier rather than very wet and slippy and stays in place quicker. Some of my friends use tweezers I do not. Hold them in place for a few seconds and they should stick.
I always find the strip lashes too long for my eyes so i cut like 8mm off the end before applying.
If one of the edges starts to come away you can just put a little blob of glue in that area and stick back down rather than starting again.
Also take the little pot of glue out with you! I've never ever ever had to reapply an eyelash but good to have just in case!

*apply glue to the strip then wait 10 seconds before putting it on, I meant to say.

I actually put the eyelashes on first, after skincare routine and before makeup! I use a tweezers and connect to my actual lashes, not my eyelid as so many people seem to do! No idea whether I’m doing it right, but they stay on and my friends tell me they look good Wink

I cut the strips into three, and stick them to my actual lashes too - I can’t bear them stuck to my eyelid!

I got the cutting tip from a make up artist, as the lashes follow your eye much better that way.

I always find it easier to put them on with your face looking down - the mirror below you. Much more simple to apply than looking forward (if that makes sense?) x

Sali Hughes says mascara first? I have never managed to get them right, so watching with interest...

I always put mascara first, it helps me guide the lashes on x

Thank you all so much for replying. It does say on the box "reusable" so maybe I should try them before the weekend? We'll be getting ready in a hotel room, will probably have a little G&T or Prosecco while we get ready - god knows how these lashes will turn out Grin I'll let you all know on Sunday!

If you can get black glue rather than the white stuff that comes with a lot of these lashes it is far better! Smile

Duo glue is the best but be careful and gentle when you remove them - I've ripped a chunk of eyelashes out in the past!

NamelessGem · 07/05/2019 10:29

@lifeinahamsterwheel

If you try them before the weekend just be aware that you’ll have to pick off the ‘old’ glue before reusing them, otherwise they can look gunky and obvious

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/05/2019 12:13

Thank you, I'll go easy with them Smile
