Can't decide on an engagement ring...

I've been looking online and window shopping and am finding it very hard to decide! I know diamonds are traditional but I love coloured stones too. Topaz is my birthstone and I've seen a gorgeous deep blue topaz ring but I was wondering how hardy it is as a gem? I'll be wearing it everyday.

Has anyone bought from The Diamond Store? Their prices seem very reasonable and some of the rings on there seem lovely. But they're online only and I'd quite like to try a couple on before deciding. I've been window shopping in Hatton Garden and much of it looks beyond our budget (around £1000).

I suppose I could get one designed but I wouldn't know where to begin! Anyone have any recommendations?

I went to Karl at London Rocks, he did some great designs but they were not cheap! Not sure he could have got something below £1000 tbh.

Yikes! I was engaged before and had a £400 ring from H Samuel but I fancy something a bit more special this time around. And I thought £1000 was a decent budget!!

I'm not opposed to second hand @Espoleta so I'll check out that auction site.

In case anyone is still interested, I thought I'd give a little update. I found my perfect ring and it's completely different to any I was looking at before!

I would go to the lanes in Brighton over Hattan garden . I got my eternity ring there . My engagement ring is vintage too and from a jewellers in Worthing called Whibleys ( they are all round Sussex now ) and it's a 5 diamond set ring ( not sure what it's called ) and I much preferred it to the delicate one stone rings .

Also recommend quality diamonds in Hatton Garden, they have a really good website where you can choose the different diamonds - it was about half the price of normal high street.
