Marks and Spencer - Per Una, all changed?

I was in Marks yesterday having a browse, and they'd moved all the concessions around, so I wasn't familiar with the new layout, and I found myself in the Per Una bit which I'd normally avoid.

It's had a total revamp. No ruffles, random detail buttons or embroidery in sight. I couldnt believe I was in Per Una, It all seemed so...normal. And ok actually.

I'm a bit stunned! When did they decide to ditch the ruffly, asymetric hems stuff?

I love that gold Autograph shirt. Wish I could wear that colour.

TacoFlavouredKisses · 04/05/2019 21:06

Oooh I've been expecting this thread and was beginning to think it was maybe just me! I got the Per Una pure cotton straight leg trousers a couple of weeks ago and they're beautifully soft and comfy... with no frills/lace/crazy colours. Really nice.

I do think an M&S buyer has been on here Grin

Isthebigwomanhere · 04/05/2019 23:38

There are some lovely classic basics.
Plus a fabulous beauty department,
Hopefully things are on the up for M&S

taybert · 05/05/2019 09:09

I like some of the summer dresses on that vogue link and they’re mostly cotton too. Off to see if I’ve got some crappy sparks offer in my inbox to use....

megrichardson · 05/05/2019 09:14

Yes I was in Marks the other day and there was some nice stuff there, even per una. Were they waiting for the buyer to retire do you think?

SinglePringle · 05/05/2019 09:17

Can’t say I’m keen on the clothes linked to but y’all would probably hate my style.

Just popped on to say - well done with the pairing down M&S - clearly you’ve got some happy customers here.

But...

SORT YOUR BRA SIZING OUT,
FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE.

In case you’re still unsure...

Nowhere else adds on the inches to the band anymore.

We are ‘smaller’ in the back and bigger in the cup than you think, meaning above an E cup is NOT BIG.

Please adjust your range accordingly... thanks ever so...

Parker231 · 05/05/2019 09:18

The quality of M&S clothes is so poor - they are using low quality material with such boring colours and designs. They are permanently trying to reinvent themselves. I like their food but can’t see the clothing part of the business being around much longer.

youllhavehadyourtea · 05/05/2019 17:21

Even the new range?

Walked into one yesterday and I noticed the difference! Actually considered buying a shirt from there. I was only stocking up on Percy pigs and socks.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/05/2019 17:34

It's so good to see more natural fabrics.

I saw lots I quite liked today, although up close some of it still a bit 'off'. T-shirts generally too short. Vests with huge armholes that showed half of my bra off.

I did buy a skirt and some shorts though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/05/2019 17:39

I like the look of:
This jacket although not seen irl

Pink denim jacket

Love the colour but it would be too long for me

Cardigan

Banhaha · 05/05/2019 17:43

The pink denim jacket caught my eye too. My sister owned something similar in the 90s/early 00s and I liked it then.

Madamedeluxe · 05/05/2019 17:55

That Vogue feature makes the clothes look gorgeous.

countrygirl99 · 05/05/2019 18:07

I actually bought 2 pairs of trousers in M&S this week - first time about 10 years!

Whyknot · 05/05/2019 19:12

I bought the green cotton trousers mentioned upthread today, they're gorgeous and hang so nicely, had to admit I was shocked when I realised I was in the Per Una section, if I had to money I could have spent a fortune.

waitingforseagulls · 05/05/2019 19:18

The frilly, embroidered, embellished look of Per Una used to be about as far from my style as humanly possible, but I picked these to try on today without realising they were from this range:

www.marksandspencer.com/wide-leg-ankle-grazer-trousers/p/p60268344?image=SD_01_T59_6034U_M0_X_EC_90&color=CAMEL&prevPage=plp

Identical to styles from Cos, Arket, even Toast which are my usual favourite shops where simple minimalism more the USP.

Still perhaps a leap too far for the current Per Una shopper judging from the reviews. Most seem to have missed the current trend of the wide leg ankle grazer being a look.

Floisme · 05/05/2019 20:07

Well this is exciting! I'm still a bit sceptical about that Vogue feature - they've done them before and made it all look amazing. And I don't agree either with that final comment about online shopping being the way forward - I think they desperately need to do something about the state of their bricks and mortar stores too. But if people are seeing real things in real shops that look good then that's very encouraging.

youllhavehadyourtea · 05/05/2019 21:22

Thats what I thought too.

I'm a Cos/Toast ( 2nd hand off ebay) person - I'm really liking this new minimalist Marks. I'm liking Per Una! Never, ever thought I'd say that. It's PerUna but not as we know it.

I'm still a bit sceptical about that Vogue feature
Take a wee look at the Marks website - ok, not as beautifully styled, but guaranteed you'll see the difference. It's a radical change.

teta · 06/05/2019 09:31

Im not sure there’s that much of a radical change!
And I think it’s overstating it to say M&S is turning into a combination of Cos/ toast etc😁.
M&S has always had the odd gem like the silk v neck shell tops and the wide jean crops. Hopefully they’re becoming more frequent.

Ok, maybe I got a bit over excited there...... Blush

But I stand by my belief that Per Una( at least) has had a radical overhall!
