How often do you wash your hair?

I’ve got into a dreadful loop of having to wash every day, unless I use dry shampoo on day 2. I actually prefer my hair on day 2, with the texture the dry shampoo brings, but I miss the “freshly washed” shine. I’m currently on “day 3” and as I used dry shampoo yesterday my hair doesn’t look at all greasy. Contemplating just giving it another quick dry shampoo blast and blow dry - but feel a bit ‘ming’!

Thoughts?

I have short but thick hair and have to wash it everyday, I prefer my hair on day 2 but by the end of the day it could stand up on its own, dry shampoo just makes my hair look dull and dusty.

Exactly what nogods said. I used to get bullied at school for my greasy hair and if I don't wash it daily it feels disgusting by the end of the second day.

Greengreengrass19 · 04/05/2019 08:46

I’ve managed to go from an every day washer to twice per week and it’s bloody liberating!! An hour extra in bed 4 mornings per week.

AliceRR · 04/05/2019 08:46

Every other day. I’d do it every day if I could be bothered

Honestly I think washing your hair less than that is gross (and appreciate some people think I’m gross for not washing every day!)

Our scalp is skin. I don’t get this “my hair looks better after a few days” or “my hair doesn’t get greasy”... So what?! We all swear and produce oils etc and our scalp needs to be washed regularly as does your face and the rest of your body!

sweat* not swear

Every day. Same as a pp, I had very greasy hair at school and have never got out of the habit. I shower every day so washing hair st the same time isn't too much trouble. My hair also dries really fast which helps.

stresstest88 · 04/05/2019 09:11

Every day, if I don't I feel gross. My hair is thick and gets greasy fast, I also run most days. Honestly I can tell people that don't wash their hair enough; I sometimes see them at work and they look greasy.

My commuter train is packed out and I've often found myself pushed up against the back of someone who doesn't wash their hair enough and frankly it's disgusting and smells - one girl had curly hair in a ponytail and honestly there were crumbs and bits of food stuck to her scalp Confused it made me feel quite ill!

ElspethFlashman · 04/05/2019 09:14

You see I find washing hair doubles the time in the shower.

But maybe it depends on your hair, like the pixie cut above. My hair is so dry at the ends that I need to do a conditioner that sits for a few minutes and then combed through before rinsing. So it's a bit of work.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/05/2019 09:20

I did read a scientific paper about how dirty hair helps clean the air, as all the crap floating about sticks to it and some is absorbed. Guess the bits stick to the grease.

b0bb1n · 04/05/2019 09:24

Not very often atm! Since giving birth a month ago my hair has become drier than ever - and it's always been pretty dry. It's like straw now. It absorbs leave in conditioner at lightning speed because it's so porous. I could probably leave it two weeks and it wouldn't get greasy (I don't).

alltheeastereggs · 04/05/2019 09:31

Everyday. For the past 35 years!! Only ever skip it if I'm ill! I hate dry shampoo. My hair looks good though if I say so myself

keepingbees · 04/05/2019 09:38

Every day. I used to do every other day but it seems greasier now. When I wake up on the second day it looks flat, lank, greasy and you can't do anything with it. Dry shampoo just makes my hair look flat and dry and is greasy again after an hour or two. My hair doesn't tie back very well either. I'd love hair I could wash once or twice a week!

PetrichorRain · 04/05/2019 09:42

Every day. It's not just the greasiness, it's cooking smells, mucky toddler hands touching it, just general grub from my hands if I've been on a train. If I wash eg my back every day in shower (and my back doesn't really get dirty at all on a normal day) or my knees, why would I leave my hair unwashed? I don't use straighteners on it and only do a rough blow dry on some days, letting it air dry if I'm working from home, so it's still in great condition.

HappyMisfit · 04/05/2019 09:44

I did the hair training thing, after years of washing hair daily. It was hell for me to start with but I now only need to wash it 1-2 times a week. Was worth it

Medicaltextbook · 04/05/2019 09:44

Every day. It isn’t so much it being clean as due to the mess and tangles it gets into overnight. I need to put so much water on it to brush it that I think I might as well wash it. I don’t know whether it’s actually good for my hair.

DerbyRacer · 04/05/2019 09:47

I do mine everyday.

dementedpixie · 04/05/2019 09:52

I'm getting so lazy at washing mine and keep delaying it. I find it gets less greasy since I started getting highlights. Maybe 2 or 3 times a week

firstimemamma · 04/05/2019 09:56

Every 3-4 days

whohaa · 04/05/2019 10:04

Every other day. It would smell of cooking smells by day 3. Dry shampoo makes me itch.

BarbedBloom · 04/05/2019 10:08

Every day. I have very very fine hair and it just gets greasy by day two. I can just about get away with dry shampoo if I tie it back. I have tried leaving it and switching to every other day as advised but it didn't really help and made me self conscious. Tried lots of shampoos too. I use Bumble and Bumble thickening shampoo at the moment and it has helped a little

sue51 · 04/05/2019 10:11

I have thick wavy hair and wash every 7 days. I ditched shampoo and now wash with conditioner. My hair looks the best its ever been.

ElspethFlashman · 04/05/2019 10:12

medicaltextbook try putting it in a mum bum on top of your head whilst you sleep. If it's high on top it won't affect your sleep and if you spray detangler or leave in conditioner in the bun bit before you do it, it should be a breeze to comb in the morning.

Swiftier · 04/05/2019 10:13

I exercise almost every day so wash my hair every day. However I use a cleansing conditioner rather than shampoo, I don’t find it as drying as shampoo.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 04/05/2019 10:36

Twice a week here. I have short, thick hair. Since I cut down from washing it daily, I find it never gets greasy. I use a rich conditioner and leave it on whilst I shower, so it gets a good, deep condition twice a week. I rarely blow dry and I colour it about every eight weeks. My hairdresser says my hair is in excellent condition, apparently menopausal hormone changes can play havoc with it.

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/05/2019 10:42

Every 2-3 days depending on when I exercise. It's shoulder length and only adds a minute or two to shower time, quick shampoo when I get in, rinse, conditioner in while I wash the rest of me, rinse again. I let it dry naturally so no blowdrying or straightening (its very wavy).
