How do I get beach waves?

I end up looking like Shirley Temple when I try.

Do I need product?

Is it my technique?

Should I use a curling cone or my ghds

How do I get beach waves?

I've had more success with my curling wand than my GHDs.
I have a long bob with some layers and I section it and curl one forwards, one backwards. Curl it all, (I end up with long ringlets, Shirley Temple style) let it cool, give it a spray and then the nerve wracking bit where you push your fingers through gently to loosen it.
Mine lasts for an evening that way and has a reasonable wave the next day too.
My wand came with a heat proof glove that's really useful but my ears quite often still cop it!

GHD creative curl wand is perfect for this! It's an oval shape so don't get your Shirley temple curls :)

With a curling wand, only wrap it’s round once. So leave the end of the hair free. Sounds weird, but really achieves the beachy wave and no Shirley Temples!

And easy way is with a Tony and Guy deep barrelled Weaver

*Waver

You don't need heat at all; look up heatless headband curls on YouTube. They work brilliantly on my fine limp hair and last 2 days. I sometimes put some salt spray in before, but it's not really necessary.

Regular straighteners. Clamp the hair and turn 90 degrees away from your face and gently pull down hair. Leave about an inch at the end uncurled. When cool run your fingers through. Voila!

Mines always best on day 2 after washing and waving (with a little touch up)

FredaFox · 02/05/2019 18:29

Watching with interest my curls drop out my fine hair, day 2 hair is better
I use a wand, can't do ghd curls
Interesting that I should only wrap around once, I'll try that but my hair is long so not sure if would look right for long beach waves

My dd gets fab beach waves by French plaiting damp hair and sleeping on it. She (I) puts two plaits in and her hair is shoulder length but very thick and glossy jealous

I've just started a thread on the Toni and guy deep barrelled waver as this is a look I really want to achieve!

I asked my hairdresser and she said if hair fine like mine (long ish) put into 4 sections and then curl with curling wand- sea spray is good but be careful as can cause hair to snap. esp if bleached hair.

i have yet to master....
