really unhappy with my hair

I've just had a mobile hairdresser out on the recommendation of a lot of people in the area. I wanted a choppy bob, like the picture, and she left me with a sticky mess, with awful layers in the back, that is loads shorter than what I wanted and that I've actually washed because it felt so horrible

She didn't put a side fringe in and I had to ask her to do that. And I had to ask for more layers. And I gave up as it was starting to come across like she was annoyed with me

The pictures are the kind of style I was hoping for, what I've been left with and the straighter style is just now because I couldn't stand what I'd been left with

Does anyone have any tips on what I can do with it while it grows out please? Seriously wish I'd braved a salon now Sad

There's an "I'm a hairdresser - AMA" (ask me anything) thread running at the mo, perhaps post your pics there for advice? The OP on it seems friendly and knowledgeable Smile

Candleglow7475 · 01/05/2019 21:40

I think it looks ok, I can see a side fringe, although not quite like you wanted. I don’t think it looks as bad as you think OP.

user1494055864 · 01/05/2019 22:42

I think the hair she left you with on your OP is really nice, and as similar to the picture as you could get from a home hairdresser. You get what you pay for. If you want hair like the model, you would need to go to a top salon and pay a lot more money for it. I think shes done a good job.

managedmis · 02/05/2019 01:32

The woman in the photo has thick, heavy hair that's pretty straight too. It sits well.

You definitely need plenty of product : I'd add dry shampoo, then back comb it into the style.

avamiah · 02/05/2019 01:41

Hi OP,
I would wash your hair again and then add a volumising spray and blow dry it with a small round brush and then put a few rollers in the top and each side while it is still damp then give it a good blast on the dryer and spray a bit of hair spray on then remove the rollers .
🤗

I dont think it will look like the model's but it will look good - i have fine hair and save time with a babyliss keratin smooth styling....thingy. its basically a hairdyer and round brush in one, so its easier to use. It takes me 10mins to get results people remark on - styling mousse when wet, then dry with the thingy (watch youtube tutorial), et viola!

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 02/05/2019 04:40

You have a lovely face shape OP.

I agree the model has been styled to within an inch of her life AND has thick hair anyway. Yours looks nice to me though. Do you have a pre wash pic?

Scrumptiousbears · 02/05/2019 05:21

Try this stuff. I have a similar hair cut and whilst mine is a lot thicker this stuff does wonders.

Scrumptiousbears · 02/05/2019 05:21

Sorry forgot the pic.

Wash your fringe and blow dry it pulled flat and straight (using a brush) directly in front of your face. Use hair straighteners at the root at your fringe to flatten it down a bit then straighten it and sweep it forwards (towards your ear) across your forehead. Curve the bottom of it a bit so it's not poker straight.

My fringe looks like yours if I don't do the above. When I do, it sits much better.

Sorry, quite hard to explain!

QuilliamCakespeare · 02/05/2019 06:05

Also, I have some salt spray called Da Dude which is great for adding volume to my thin hair.

Tanaqui · 02/05/2019 06:15

I expect it felt sticky because she had put on lots of products to make it look more like the pic. Unfortunately if you like your hair to feel like hair, lots of styles become a challenge!

pinklemonade84 · 02/05/2019 07:57

Thank you everyone for all of the suggestions, I'm taking them all on board

@ChipInTheSugar I've asked a question on the thread you suggested

@Namechangeforthiscancershit a the before wash picture is the middle one on the first page. I couldn't stand the sticky feeling so had to wash it xx

I have fine hair and a very choppy bob which I've had for quite a while now. It is low maintenance but as others have said it is all about the products. I use a root boosting mousse and then dry upside down. I then just straighten my fringe a bit and use some texture wax/putty on the ends. Job done.

Enjoy your new hair, I think it looks lovely and once you get to grips with the styling you'll love it.

Fresta · 02/05/2019 17:01

Quilliam, that's good advice- my fringe is like the OP's too and I style mine exactly as you describe so it falls more forward. My hair is fine and this makes it look thicker too because you can't see through it to the scalp when it is styled flatter and more forward.

QuilliamCakespeare · 02/05/2019 19:27

Thanks @Fresta that gives me hope that the instructions are decipherable!

pinklemonade84 · 02/05/2019 21:28

@QuilliamCakespeare I'm going to have a try tomorrow

Dh is off work on Fridays, so I'll have time to have a play about and find what works Smile

@StCharlotte I love tigi products, so will definitely have a look for that, thank you

pinklemonade84 · 03/05/2019 13:05

Waves with the rollers don't work as my hair is too short I think, but I'm happier with how it's turned out today Smile

Please excuse the posey photo, I took a picture to show a friend Blush

Thank you so much for all of the tips and advice, I really appreciate it xx

That's much better, you've got the volume at the roots. If it starts to drop, dry shampoo is your friend.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/05/2019 14:20

That's loads better! I hate all the products my hairdresser puts in my hair, by the evening I'm a greasy mess as it weighs my hair down so much. Looks lovely now Smile

Starryskiesinthesky · 03/05/2019 14:47

Your hair looks lovely 😊. Only thing I would change is how you do your fringe to try to avoid the 'up part'. Sorry I am useless at describing what i mean. I think someone a while back said it better!

MrsSeanBakedBean · 04/05/2019 13:08

I think it looks lovely op, great colour too.
